Taxi driver robbed in his own driveway A TERRIFIED taxi driver was robbed of his takings and a £700 watch when hooded thugs targeted him outside his own home.
Imran Ahmed had parked his black Hackney cab in his driveway for the night and was about to open the door of his home in Park Gate, Erskine, when the robbers struck.
The pair demanded cash from the 33-year-old cabbie, eventually snatching a black JD sports bag containing around £80 and his prized gold and black Rado wristwatch.
The robbery happened as Imran’s wife Parveen and their three children slept upstairs.
Now police are appealing for witnesses in a bid to catch the suspects.
Imran told the Paisley Daily Express he had parked his taxi at around 12.50am on Friday and was carrying the sports bag when he was attacked.
He said: “When I opened the door of the car, there was no-one around but, when I turned to lock the door, there was one guy right beside me and another one at the back of the cab.
“Both of them had hoods up and I couldn’t see their faces.
“The one next to me said ‘Give us the money’ and pointed at the bag.
“I was totally shocked. I asked what money they were talking about. They kept telling me to give them the money and then the first guy grabbed the bag I was holding and the second guy stepped forward and put his hand in his pocket as if he had something hidden in there.
“I stepped back towards the house because I thought he might have a knife or something.
“The first guy then grabbed my arm and took my watch. I was really panicking at this point.
“A car passed by and both men waited until it left before they ran away with bag and the watch.
“The watch is worth a lot to me and it is very recognisable. If someone tries to sell it, they will know that it belongs to me.
“I immediately ran into the house, woke up my wife and called the police.”
The thieves are described as being around 5ft 9ins tall and were wearing dark jackets.
Dad-of-three Imran also described them as being in their 20s and with local accents.
He is unsure whether the pair had been watching him and studying his routine but he did see a group of young men acting suspiciously nearby two nights earlier.
Imran said: “I couldn’t say if it was the same boys but they were roughly the same age and height and they were hanging about in an alleyway.
“In the 10 years I’ve been driving taxis, I have never had anything like this before. I have also lived in Erskine for seven years and it’s always been a quiet place.”
Anyone who has information about the robbery is asked to call Paisley Police Office on 0141 532 5900 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
