But what all you cynics fail to take into account is that Skippy's runs weren't all local [-(

Maybe Skippy is really Santa Clause and time travels with him.

Yes, maybe he got a time machine for Christmas :D

Or perhaps it's all one of those clever jokes about the neutrino :-s

If Skippy were a Disney character, which one would he be?

I'll be nice and suggest 'Sleepy' after all those jobs

Well cream crackered.
Considering there where only 5 of us working, different company's, we had a dam good night, only 2 pubs open in local housing schemes, so no one called from them, all phone work house to house at one stage I was telling folk around an hour, and as they where in a nice warm house they waited.
Have a look at google earth and you can see just what Galashiels is like it approximately 3 miles long by a mile wide, so when there next to no other traffic on the roads its easy to get around.
When you have lots of phone work you can organise a drop then a quick pick up in the same area even the same street.
Yes we are derestricted.
What tends to happen here is families collect family and friends at lunch time, then get them cabs to get them home later.
That was 87 runs just from 6.30 PM BTW, the longest run was 10 miles and I got a return :D
Things do come true even in fairy tails

That's over 7 jobs an hour for 12 hours or 4 jobs for 18 hours. Skippy, you have a wonderful imagination.

What is it with taxi drivers and talking shi*e? #-o

Well that's me back in what a fantastic night, grand total of 87 runs and not just local :D :D :D :D :D

I've been doing this job longer than most, but not as long as some, and in that time have worked some very crazy long hours, and I have never ever done 87 jobs in a day.

Between 40 and 50 is the most I can think of.

I remember when I first started driving Taxis, ( 1959), I was really young. Then, diesel was only 1s & 4d a gallon (roughly, £6 a litre by todays prices). Anyhoo, Edinburgh was regulated then, there was only 127 Taxis on the road. I remember this guy, Jim was his name, we referred to him as Mr Jasbar. He was the most popular driver in the Toon’. I always remeber what his catch-phrase was, “ I never got to where I am today by listening to rumors of deregulation”. He was a great guy, and I often wonder what happened to him.
The main point I want to make is, on Christmas Eve 1960, ( The flag-down then was 9d), I worked a 12 hr shift, nae’ breaks, I pashed & shat masel’ in the Cab, had an average of 33 passengers per hour, and made £9, 10s, 4d, The eqilivent of £685 !. So you’re right Skippy. it can be done. Unfortunately there are there are always going to be,Doubting Thomas’ mate.
