A CONVICTED pervert shacked up with a teenager he met while running her to SCHOOL in his taxi.

The shocking revelations emerged as he appeared at Ayr Sheriff Court last week after being found guilty of making sexual comments to two girls aged as young as eight.

The girl said she was 16 and claims that "made her an adult".

I suspect that means she was above the age of sexual consent, which is 16 everywhere in the UK.

Under 16 and the law says she can't consent to sex, thus technically it's rape.

In Scotland you can marry at 16, but in England you must be 18 unless there's parental consent, then it's the same as Scotland. So if you're 16 in England and your parents don't consent then it's up to Scotland, normally Gretna Green. But that's not what the girl was referring to - she was more probably alluding to the age of consent, because there's no mention of them marrying in the story.

However, another measure of adulthood is the 'age of majority', which is basically when the law considers you a legally competent adult for certain purposes. In England this is 18, in Scotland it's 16. But I doubt that's what the girl was alluding to here, and indeed I can't really see its direct relevance.

And as far as other matters like buying alcohol, driving a car and voting are concerned, that's not necessarily the same as the ages above - they're all slightly different matters as far as age is concerned.

But in essence it seems almost certain that the girl was referring to the age of sexual consent, which is 16 throughout the UK, so basically at the moment there's nothing wrong with their relationship.

What happened previously is perhaps another matter, but that's not what she's getting at.
