You have four days to complete the Driver Training online consultation forms. I know many of you are too lazy or stupid to do so. I beg you do not fail to do this questionnaire, if you do you will land yourself a bill of around £200 just to keep your Licence. As we are paying the highest Licence fee's in the UK and possibly Europe, I think we do not deserve another £200 bill, JUST TO KEEP OUR JOB.

I would suggest that if any other Industry tried to charge workers this amount of money to keep their own job, the Council and even the Government would be up in arms over it.

However I believe the Council have already decided to make this a condition of Licence, so please, for once make an effort, fill the form out.

Of course it doesn't help that the trade themselves sh*ft each other, most are not interested until they get the £200 bill, they'll then ask why didn't someone else tell them about it and sort it out.

Your right as always CC, it is with despair I look at the drivers around me now, Manchester has changed in my 25+ years as a hack, Less than 5% of all drivers ,both Hack and PH are white born British. Drivers travel from around 40 miles away to work here, mainly because the have fu**ed their own area's up.

Perhaps then they all need some extra training to ensure they don't f*** up Manchester. :-$

You are right Sussex they do need training, but do 25 year men with no convictions or complaints of any sort, need training, and if they do who would be better placed to train them. ?

I do see your point, and, for what it's worth, support it.

However every trade that I know of has to have some sort of continual training.

Those opposing extra training must put a case to councils explaining why, and TBH I'm glad it's not me being asked to put that case.

Well not yet.

In many industries the costs are much higher plumbers have to spend £1500 at regular intervals to keep up to date and registered as gas installers so comparatively £200 is not so bad

BUT the problem here will be that the people who will be able to afford it will be the ones fresh off the plane whose families will club together to stump up the cash in order to get them into the industry working alongside friends and relatives. Those who have lived in the country all their lives are usually less able to afford it and in my experience even with things like NVQ when my drivers did theirs they each did it themselves. Many of the other firms in town where the drivers are mostly immigrants the paperwork side was done for them. Similarly drivers can somehow pass their knowledge test with flying colours but when they start work don't know where the railway station is !! Once the training regime comes in it will probably not be a level playing field

It's the same round here, we've got drivers who travel from Derby, Birmingham, Keighley and Bradford to work in our manor. How they've passed the knowledge is beyond me but, they seem to be getting through it.

One driver was given a job to take a guy to work a fare of £8, this guy used to company 5 days a week there and back. When this driver went for him he took him on a 16 mile trip, the passenger kept telling him he was going the wrong way but the driver kept saying in broken English, "this is the right way sat nav says so."

When he eventually got to work the meter had £30 on the clock, the driver was adament he wanted £30. The customer said your getting £8 and you can eff off I won't be using you again.

Health and Safety updates, legal updates, level of service improvement, getting rid of bad habits.

The problem we have, as a trade, is good people like you saying we can't improve things, and any training is a waste of time.

The biggest thing holding it back is, IMO, one of costs and loss of earnings, not that it would be a waste of time.

I agree most of the courses that existing drivers do is a waste of time, but that's the fault of those so-called trainers being useless, and councils not keeping tabs on them.

My point is that drivers can benefit from on-going training if that training is relevant to what we do.

However until drivers can re-claim their loss of earnings I don't think this universal training will work, even if the training is a benefit to drivers.

As mentioned above I'm yet to be convinced the trade has benefited, but that's not to say training is bad per say, just that the training currently being done is bad.
