Really didn't like this year, in fact it's been one of the worst since I joined this wonderful trade, all those years ago. The financial state of the trade isn't the main reason why I say get rid, it's more to do with the political state of the trade.

Will 2012 be any better, I hope so, and I doubt it could be much worse than 2011. But I have a good feeling that the economy will be better in 2012 than it was in 2011. The doom mongers may differ, and they may be right, but I'm starting 2012 in a positive mood.

I remember the discussions we were having, on a now defunct taxi forum, around the time of the Queen's 50 anniversary, and it was very busy due to those celebrations. Let's hope the 60th can be as good as the 50th. I also think the Olympics will bring us some work, even for those not working within the M25.

So that's the positive side for 2012. On the negative side I think the Law Commission will run rings around those foolish enough to think themselves clever, and the outcome of all of this will not generally be good. National PH operators will not be good, IMO, for PH, and the ending of taxi restrictions will not be good for those that fight that cause.

Locally the trade is at war big-time, and muggings is getting the blame for some of it. Will that change during 2012? TBH I couldn't give a f***.

So happy New Year to all the members on TDO, the vast number of lurkers on TDO, and the clowns from the B&H Fanny Forum. :D

Well that was a total waste of time tonight, in 23 years of cab driving it's been the worse NYE I've ever had. This will be the last one I ever work, if I even mention that I'm going to work another NYE please shoot me between the eyes.

2011 wasn't a great year for me but 2012 could be a lot worse starting with last nights disastrous night and my mum's funeral on tuesday ! roll on 2013

I certainly hope everyone else on here has a better 2012

Sorry to read that edders, you have my sympathy.

For personal reasons 2011 was a bit naff, I didnt like the nearly being dead thing (complete with free air ambulance ride) one iota.

Its going to be a weird 2012, lots of decent stuff in terms of sport......but trade wise the law commission is sitting there like a vulture ready to pounce.

Happy New Year to all fellow subscribers to TDO.

I expect 2012 to be even better than 2011, which was a good year for us. But then my glass is always half full and not half empty. Whatever changes are thrown at the industry i am sure that most of us will change and adapt to meet any new challenges that are put our way. All the best for 2012 to you all (even those north of the border).

We won't need to change and adapt Charles. With that funny looking kid who's running North Korea I don't think we'll be bothered about changing and adapting. With his finger poised over the big red button change and adapt is the least of my worries at this moment in time.

I hardly think that we will be top of the list for North Korea. Anyway I think he will be against proliforation.

With the Army behind him and with his fathers past epics ringing in his ears I don't think it will be long.

If anyone should be worried about North korea its south korea and China but I suspect that a year or two down the line there might be the Korean equivalent of the arab spring and the country might move a bit nearer to democracy

Back to 2012 I think this is a year to get your head down work hard and wait to see what happens any major changes to our trade will be at least 2 years down the line one thing about being self employed is that you are the only one who can put yourself out of a job its just a case of staying one step ahead of the P*K*S and keeping an eye on what silly prices some are doing

Grandad's glass half full approach is probably the best way to be as long as you don't get too greedy and try and fill the glass right up or too complacent and allow the glass to empty

Yes half full is good enough for me.

That's what I like to see, delusional taxi drivers. On a more personal note, I can see how keeping a positive out look on life can be beneficial. However, this is the taxi trade you are talking about so something miraculous happening, is out of the question. Now allow let me rain on your parade, the trade is [edited by admin] and the economy is only going to get worse.
