Done some of these sh1tty courses myself , only because it was compulsary ill add . Honestly the majority of it was a waste of time ,the only things that were relevant was the lunch breaks !

I agree most of the courses that existing drivers do is a waste of time, but that's the fault of those so-called trainers being useless, and councils not keeping tabs on them.

My point is that drivers can benefit from on-going training if that training is relevant to what we do.

However until drivers can re-claim their loss of earnings I don't think this universal training will work, even if the training is a benefit to drivers.

I agree with Sussex about the quality of the training currently and the lack of tabs being kept on providers but why not do training when they're not working then there is no need to re-claim loss of earnings.

Nobody suggests that you would WANT to but if needs be, rather than cut into your work hours perhaps it's better to do training outside those hours. Taxi drivers are not the only self employed profession that has to have training so why do they think they are a special case?

I'm not going to argue with you because I know that the course content is not all it should be, but, drivers do keep going on about how they have to come out of work to attend courses and why should they give up their free time. All I wanted to know was why shouldn't they when other self employed occupations have to?

If the Council are set on putting Drivers through a Course, which I think is, on balance, a good idea, then it might be sensible to suggest that there are "TWO" Courses.

An Initial Course covering all and whatever aspects of the Trade that the Council wishes Drivers to be aware of, and then: ~

A Single session "Top-up" Course, which covers New Regulations, Special Warnings and any recent advice on Customer Handling.

From a purely personal point of view, it is obvious to me that the Syllabus, offered by the Tutorial Company to our Council, was not being effectively presented.

Several of their Instructors, although individually well qualified in their particular field, lacked the necessary communication skills to pass that knowledge over to us. Maybe our Councils should Monitor the Courses, in real time, now and again.

Yes, we could have someone who doesnt actually understand the job, monitor a course run by someone who doesnt understand the job.

makes perfect sense.

You don't have to do the job to understand whether a course is hitting the spot ffs

you're going to have to explain that.....do you mean that when every driver has completed the course, results should be monitored via complaints?

If the LO, as you say, haven't got a clue about the job when they go into the course and still haven't got a clue about the job after the course, then the course is no good is it #-o
