A meaningless comparison.

Hint - £45, 5 days a week over 5 years = nearly £60k

Does the driver not get tax relief part o' the £60k Dusty ? Or is that meaningless as well ?

Well I would hope so.

But he could spend that sort of money on a brand new taxi, still get tax relief on that and have thousands to spare.

Ignoring, of course, the plate complication in the equation.

The thing is Dusty I was faced with the, “Plate complication thing,” A lot of money btw. Add to that Insurance, road tax, and vehicle maintenance and I think you will find that the person wouldn’t be left with that many, “Thousands,” to spare. Anyway, Big Paul can decide who he wants to listen to.
I was only telling him what my experiences were

Well I reckon you could easily own, maintain and insure a singled good quality purpose built taxi for £30k over 5 years.

Compared to a £45 per day rental that leaves £30k spare \:D/

Yes - what I'm getting at is that in effect the driver is paying £30k over five years to hire the plate.

Aw' right... Hey, if the argument is it makes more sense to buy in than rent, then yes I agree
Glad we got that sorted out.

You see Dusty, John's back in his wee fantasy world even though no one wanted to buy his plate. What a dreamer . . . #-o

Indeed - my argument is that it makes more sense to let drivers choose whether or not to run their own vehicle without the adding complication of the plate premium, rather than the contrary argument portrayed by John :D

Anyways, time for some shut-eye

There is no agument Dusty. As it stands, Taxis are restricted in Edinburgh, and realistically if you want a Plate, you have to buy in. I was only stating what the facts were as far as the Trade in Edinburgh is concerned. The rules of the game were in place long before I got involved. I had two choices, rent or buy in. I rented for 10 years, and 4 years ago I bought in. Now, if you want to agree with Skull and demonise folk for doing this, then fine.

Back to Big Paul.

If your circumstances are as you say, and you need to increase your income, have you considered working weekends or nights?

Because working Monday to Friday in this job ain't going to make you rich, or that comfortable.
