Unless the ramps have been tested and certified for the use they are being put to, they are not fit for purpose.

The driver who refused, did the right thing.

The driver with the broken ramp IMHO did not.
He allowed his equipment to be used in a manor for which it was not designed.
On top of the damage to the ramp, he's lucky he's not being sued by some ambulance chaser as well.

So Skull, where would that stand in relation to the figures you got from the Health and Safety Executive (as I recall it) a few years ago?

TBH, I doubt that a wheelchair big enough to accomodate this gentleman would fit in a TX

Anyone over the weight of six and a half stones presented a high risk to the driver. :-|

Here's one for you. A guy I knew on the Haymarket rank picked up a 30 stone plus female just along from the rank, in his old TX1. I think it was a T reg. She manages to get into the taxi, so far, so good. And then pl*nks herself down, there's one an almighty crack, and the seat goes through the floor. The rusty metal around the seat mounts just gave way. The female was left wedged into the back seat staring up at the ceiling.

And that's as true as I'm sitting here writing this. He was off the road for a few days getting welding done. #-o

Does Cellutis cause the overweight Obesity or does the Overweight Obesity cause the Cellutis?

If its the latter then possibly the disability may have been avoidable, unlike the considerable risk to the poor old Taxi driver that may cause himself some serious disabilty in his efforts to appease the client and bugger his own back in the process.

Nurses Need special Lifting gear and training to move almost everybody these days...so why should Taxi drivers get it in the neck for looking after themselves in a similar manner.

I had a guy 23 years ago, who could walk no problem but he was around 28 stone and about 6 foot 7, he opened the back door of my FX4, and sat on one of the jump seats, the whole of the partition collapsed on top of him.
Needles to say I had to come up to the smoke and get it sorted, he was so embarrassed by it he paid for the repair, and gave me a nice bung to cover loss of earnings
He normally sat on the back seat but was with friends and they had it, his wife who was around 7 stone was not amused either, she was sat on the front jump seat and landed on top of him

We used to pick a woman up round here, he was in excess of 20 stone and had neve seen soap or water for weeks or even months. When she got out of the car you could smell her for hours after.

Nice one 'Roo Boy'
just like your Job Count everything comes up smelling of Roses    :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!:

On this subject, IMO a driver Has THE Right to refuse a passenger in the interest of safety (for both the passenger and driver) and the City guy was correct to refuse this passenger.
The Skull and Jasbar are correct the guy obviously needs specialist transportation needs and a Taxi is not the answer

Tell us wise one. When do stop always discounting "to get more fares?"

Is it when you're doing the job for nothing ....

Or is it when it's you paying the punter for the privilege of driving him home?

Coco or what?

Seems an Odd reply....I dont discount. Im not doing any job for nothing and I dont pay the Punter a penny.

I only raised a question on Cellulitis and added the fact that Nurses wouldnt bugger their backs where taxi drivers are Expected to do so..

And what the Feck has Coco got to with any of those things?

Oooops. Used the wrong quote button. Wasn't meant for you.

I've corrected it now.

Sorry for the confusion.
