I've single shifted for 14 years and if you where to take my advice it would be to Single shift, this i believe and in today's climate the safest way to protect your investment

As you have a psv, why not start a mini bus service, doing hen and stag does or even airport transfers.
Then all it would cost is the price of a decent mini bus

And an operators licence.[/

Far cheaper than a hack one

You're not wrong skip.

The hack trade is where the desire seems to be generated by those who need it to be.

But its under attack from all sides.

The council's bus company.
Forthcoming trams.
PH.
Minibus companies.
Rikshaws.
Scoot.

And various groups are looking at specialist vehicles to oprize niche markets from the hack trade piece by piece, the smart cars just the latest. 7/8 seaters already the order of the day.

Taxi driving does not suit everyone, while it's incredibly simple just to think of it as driving from A to B. It's much more than that.

Handling the Customers is not something that everyone does with ease.

I would suggest that you do as I did, work for someone else for a couple of years. Drive Hacks and Private Hires, School Runs and the Airport. Do Back Shifts and Days. Try everything. Keep Records of your Hours, Mileage and Takings. Work the Ranks and with a Booking System, preferably more than one, and by the end of a couple of years you will know where you fit.

You will have a good idea of what it means to work Back-shift for 60 hours a week. How to deal with the Drunks and those that are Sick in your Car. Which Radio Systems have the most suitable Clientèl for your future Business. And most of all, you will get to know some of the other Drivers and have a chance of seeing what the different Earning options are.

Jasbar, Skull

bit of information required please.

What really is the difference between Incorporating your license and Partnership and what would you say is probably the best route.
I know you guys are against both but a wee bit help with this info would be appreciated

How often do licences and cabs for sale turn up ? (its a general licence I would be after, so able to pick up hires anywhere) I was talking to a cab driver at glasgow taxi firm, he advised he was selling the whole package and was looking around 50k for this, although that was last year would that be a "fair" figure ?

Saw this link on the Edinburgh taxi forum. It says the basic plate price is £34k and I wouldn't imagine the Glasgow prices are a whole lot different. Didn't Edinburgh peak at around £50k for the plate? A 'fare' drop in value then. :-({|=

That 2008 E7 (ref 31) with only 12,000 on the clock looks a bit iffy @ £63k. 8-[

But the 2010 TX4 Silver (ref 120) with 23,000 looks like a steal @ £55k.
