Kitts Green thug jailed for taxi driver attacks A THUG who spat in a taxi driver’s face has been jailed.
Daniel Roberts was already on bail for an earlier attack on driver Saeed Janan when he carried out the sickening act.
The 19-year-old, of Kellymead Road, Kitts Green, was jailed for a total of 19 months after admitting two counts of common assault, racially aggravated common assault, criminal damage and witness intimidation.
Jailing him at Warwick Crown Court, Judge Marten Coates told Roberts: “You have been living an anti-social life, causing misery and distress and financial loss to other people.”
The court heard Roberts spat at Mr Janan when the taxi driver was sent to pick up a fare from the Prince Hal pub in Chelmsley Wood on July 15 last year.
Roberts was already on bail in connection with an earlier incident when Mr Janan was punched and hit with a bottle as he collected the teenager and a second youth for a journey last May.
He was later arrested and charged over the second confrontation with the taxi driver but was bailed once more and picked a fight with his sister’s ex-boyfriend in a pub beer garden.
Neil Skinner, defending, said: “At first blush these sound like extremely unpleasant incidents, and they were. But he is a different man now.
“He has been in custody for three-and-a-half months. He is sorry for what he has done. There is no suggestion he had inherent racial attitudes.”
But the judge said: “I don’t accept that anyone can change so much in such a short period of time.”
He jailed Roberts for six months for the first attack on the taxi driver, with a consecutive nine-month sentence for the second incident and a further four months for the assault on Mr Bayton.
