Thirty years after Margaret Thatcher fought a 74-day war with Argentina over the Falkland Islands, the prospect of an oil boom is reviving tensions.

Oil explorers are targeting 8.3 billion barrels in the waters around the islands this year, three times the U.K.'s reserves.

Aye the Jocks won't like it when we leave them to their own devices. They are like the Argies, "it's our oil, it our oil."

The Falklands are 290 miles offshore, Paris is nearer to the UK than that so therefore we should invade, mind you there wouldnt be much resistance, Germany did it twice without a shot being fired (it would be appropriate seeing as the Exocet missiles and planes that fired them were supplied by France)

One good thing would be maybe the Royal Navy could fire another torpedo in anger, its been a while, but we are fresh out of Harriers

I used to make the barrels for the guns that we fitted to our war ships to fool the Exocet missiles. This was after the Falklands war, not before it. They would detect the incoming missile and within less than a second they would automatically point in the direction of the missile and fire out huge quantities of silver foil. This gave the impression of there being a ship about 20 to 30 yards nearer and the Exocet would explode early.

Not many supertankers carry anti missiles defences

You forgot the Doctors and Nurses, teachers, Police, etc etc. They can't expect Westminster to pay them can they?

What gives the Argies anymore claim over the Falkland Islands than we have, We have held it longer than they ever did and Its not mainland Argentina. Possibly those with some legitimate claim woulf have been the Indiginous Falkland Island natives that lived their before it was colonised by europeans.

If we all adopted the Argies approach to ownership then every country in the world would have to be contested, especially the Likes of the USA, Australia, Canada and indeed Argentina itself....as somebody lived in or colonised these places long before they became the nations as we know them today.

The only folk that should now determine its legitimate place in the world are the islanders themselves...and they seem to a man to be very pro British indeed.

The Majority of Scots are realistic enough to realise that we would only go from being a independant but Democratic partner in a United Kindom to being a Non Indepenant and undemocratic partner of a federal European union where we'd have no say whatsoever. And I bloody well know which of those two options I would rather have.
