Taxi driver dies in city shooting

A 53-year-old taxi driver has been shot dead in his cab in Sheffield.
The man, named by colleagues as father-of-five Younis Khan, was shot as he drove along Scott Road, Pitsmoor, in the early hours of Wednesday.

It seems hard to believe that this was a random shooting. No doubt sooner or later the motive will come out as to why this gentleman was targeted but it wouldn't surprise me in the least to find out that the motive was completely unrelated to his job of driving a cab.

Regards

JD

I salute your intuition JD. Younis Khan was a personal friend for many years, and I am truely saddened at hearing of his death. The police investigation is in the way of a fuller disclosure, but in truth this death of a cab driver is not related to our trade but a result of his sons' involvement with drug dealing gangs. An innocent man has paid with his life for misdeeds of his off-springs.
No cab driver in Sheffield is loosing sleep over this as our trade becoming more dangerous but more of a lesson to be learned to keep a check on your kids.

Isn't this the second murder of a taxi driver in sheffield ? wasnt there a very similar one last year ?

this is the sort of thing that none of us want to see but I suppose with security being tightened all around are cabbies becoming the easier target ?

i hope for the sake of his family and those of other cabbies that these vile cretins are put away for a LONG time

There was one exactly the same last year, same name, same location.

Gun pair jailed over taxi death

Two brothers who shot a taxi driver dead in a revenge attack against his son have been jailed for life. Driver Younis Khan, 53, died after being shot while driving his cab in Sheffield in March last year.

Ashley Cohen, 25, of Clough Wood View and David Cohen, 28, of Philadelphia Gardens, both in Sheffield, will serve 33 and 31 years respectively. Ramzan Mirza, 27, was acquitted of murder after the five-week trial at Sheffield Crown Court.

Mr Khan, a father-of-five, was killed by a single shot through the window of his car as he drove down Scott Road, in the Pitsmoor area of the city, in the early hours of 14 March 2007. Four other bullets were found in the car and a sixth bullet missed, the court heard.

Mr Khan struggled to continue driving after being shot but crashed into the gates of Burngreave Cemetery and was later pronounced dead in hospital. Both brothers had planned the killing, the court heard.

They had initially wanted to kill Mr Khan's son, Imran, after finding out that he had taken a gun to David Cohen's house in revenge for trouble at a Sheffield nightclub.

Mr Khan's widow Pervez Khan said: "I have no forgiveness in my heart for the murderers of my husband. "They may have been sent to prison, but one day they will come out and they will see their families again and be able to speak to and kiss their children. "Younis, who was a loving husband, father and grandfather, will never be able to do so."

David Ashmore, 45, of Dykewood Drive, had already been found guilty of perverting the course of justice and was jailed for three years and six months. Although it was not clear which of the Cohen brothers pulled the trigger they were both found guilty of the murder.

Good to see some respectable sentences being handed out. Then again I guess the Sheffield Taxi trade is'nt represented by a cretin who calls the Police racists, hinders the investigation, then expects dialogue in the same breath. [-X

I believe the cretin son has decided Sheffield is not safe for him any more and has reportedly relocated elsewhere. He should have been prosecuted as well for using a fire-arm first that lead to escalation of events and the Cohen brothers looking for revenge by Younis Khan being targeted.
The Cohens are half brothers of an ex Mr Big of Sheffield, and he was murdered execution style in 2003, so guns are part of the family. http://www.thestar.co.uk/news/CABBIE-EX ... 3975843.jp

"There is no way they would have murdered anyone and put us and their children in this kind of danger – they are family men. They would never want any harm to come to us, it isn't the kind of people they are."

Spoken like true DHSS people.

THE son of murdered Sheffield taxi driver Younis Khan has been arrested for possession of a firearm.
Imran Khan, aged 25, was quizzed by detectives following evidence he gave at the trial of his father's two killers - brothers Ashley and David Cohen.

Now Khan has been arrested on suspicion of possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear.

The Crown Prosecution Service will decide whether he should be charged.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Our case is based on Imran's admissions when he gave evidence at court.

"A file has now been prepared and is with the CPS who are considering the matter. We are now awaiting their decision."

David and Ashley Cohen are serving a total of 64 years for murdering 53-year-old Younis Khan at the wheel of his cab in Pitsmoor.

Sheffield Crown Court heard they were intent on revenge after shots were fired at David's house and unable to track down Imran Khan killed his father instead.

Jailed brothers pin their hopes on change in law

RELATIVES of two Sheffield brothers jailed for life for the execution of a city taxi driver hope a review of the ‘joint enterprise’ law may help their bid for freedom.

David and Ashley Cohen were convicted in April 2008 of the murder of 53-year-old cabbie Younis Khan.

Mr Khan, of Abbeyfield Road, Pitsmoor, was shot dead as he drove his taxi through his neighbourhood in 2007.

The brothers, who denied murder, were convicted on the basis of joint enterprise. Although the prosecution could not say who pulled the gun’s trigger, they said the brothers ‘planned and orchestrated’ the murder.

MPs have called for a review of the joint enterprise law - a move welcomed today by Pat Sharp, David and Ashley Cohen’s mother.

She said: “The law dates back 300 years and was introduced to try to stop duels. We are in 2012 now. My sons feel positive about their case, and feel joint enterprise should not have been used.”

Their cousin Dean Reid, 34, added: “They were not at the scene of the crime for a start.”

David Cohen, aged 32, of Philadelphia Gardens, Upperthorpe, was jailed for 31 years and Ashley, 27, of Clough Wood View, Oughtibridge, was sentenced to 33.

The brothers were said to have organised Mr Khan’s shooting in revenge after the taxi driver’s son, Imran, opened fire on David’s house following a nightclub brawl.

Joint enterprise legislation was also used to convict four men of the murder of 17-year-old Tarek Chaiboub, of Wincobank, Sheffield, who was shot dead at a barber’s shop in Burngreave in July 2008.

Nigel Junior Ramsey, his brother Denzil Ramsey, their next door neighbour Levan Menzies and their pal Michael Chattoo were jailed for a total of 110 years after being found guilty of murder. The prosecution claimed it was unable to say who shot the teenager but that all the men were involved.
