Right

according to an oil and fuel analyist on t'wireless today...

we over produce unleaded and export it, we have to import diesel as we dont make enough ourselves and the refineries here were never meant to produce so much as when built diesel was for heavy commercials only, and the refineries cant be altered and no new ones have been built for many years

this tells me that diesel is bound to rise in exponentially (i.e. bloody fast) over the next 10 years, and the gap between petrol and diesel will increase

Heard the same interview.

By all accounts diesel makes up 55% of fuel used and petrol only 45%. Would never had guessed that in a million years. :?

So if there is no new refining capacity how come Esso have increased the capacity of fawley and Total have spent hundreds of millions on Immingham

No the oil companies were caught out by the trend towards diesel cars and the switching of most railfreight from rail to road leading to a big increase in demand for fuel for lorries over the last 20 years BUT they have made some investment and UK refineries are more heavily geared towards diesel production than US refineries but they still have to import supplies but I believe this trend is now reversing with the lorry companies themselves shoving the stuff back onto trains to save fuel and petrol far more attractively priced than diesel

Alex Salmonds (God of Oil) oil will come into its own if world demand becomes unmet...we might get around a teaspoon each from the North seas dwindling reserves.

I hate the EU, are they so bloody stupid as to cut of their Oilless nose in spite of their oil reliant face?? What is it to us what they do in Iran, they want to sell us oil and we want to buy it..Iran will be a pain whatever way we handle them, might as well take their oil when its there, if not then China will take it at knock down prices if we dont and they'll end up light years ahead of us business wise and financially.

Who gave the EU the moral highground to interfere in other countries affairs.

right according to our local morrisons they are on "Black Alert" although a tanker was there today :) price up to 140.9 for diesel though but no sign yet of panic buying :D so maybe this time it won't be such a problem
