And if Councillor Dave/taxi trade rep can say:

"I believe that the decision reached today will see some taxi drivers charging the full amount displayed on the meter."

...then the whole thing is a nonsense. ](*,)

Did I say that?

You said: "the local cab trade should be the ones to decide what is best for their market."

So who do you want deciding it then?

Are you alluding that you don't really want the local cab trade deciding fares at all?

The LA......just because they decide a rate of fare doent mean the vehicle needs a taximeter.

Now you've completely lost me.

I think what you meant was that that the local cab trade should decide what THEY THINK is best for the local market.

Not that the local cab trade should DECIDE what's best - that is and should be down to a regulator, which as things stand is a local authority licensing committee.

Your half right.....the trade decide what the fares should be......this is either approved or denied by the LA who set the rate......the trade then charge that as a maximum.

Not one mention of a taximeter.

It seems the trade in this area dont want taximeters......it also seems that they never had any complaints.....prior to the dubious one......so there obviously aint an issue with overcharging.......so why make them?

Never any complaints at all?

Gosh, imagine that - a taxi trade without meters and no one has ever complained about a fare.

I wonder where the impetus for a fitting meters came from? Did councillors just wake up one morning and think, what'll we do today, I know, let's get the local taxis to fit meters.

I think meters are good for both customers and drivers, provided of course that the tariff is set to reflect local market conditions.

Thats what was stated in respect of complaints.

Yes, I think I believe people such as councillors and licensing officers do actually wake up on a morning with silly ideas.......Miltojn Keynes is one example.....Cec Tallack.....he's a f*ckwit of the first order, and i guess he knows everything about cleaning dogdsh*t from streets and getting his face in the paper.......he spoke to the select committee.....presumably he was picked because he had a beard.....he had a beard for christs sake!!!

Not only did he look retarded, he spouted like he was actually retarded?

In respect of meters, the local taxi trade seem to be under the impression they get on fine.......with a dubious complaint from some customer why would an LA go to such lengths to p*ss off the entire cab trade......unless of course they woke up one morning?

Yes, I always take as 100% gospel what local trades say in the press

Yes, the complaints that occurred do seem a bit dubious, but I don't think they should detract from the basic arguments.

My town is relatively civilised, but the thought of some of the local taxi drivers operating without meters frightens me.

Mind you, the thought of some of the local drivers working with meters frightens me
