After spending 25 years in Sales on the road and being fed up with all the hassles that go with it, I am just about to collect a Taxi Badge for North Notts, but on reading through the News item on the Forum, have I got a the wrong idea that it is such a tough trade, I suppose I will soon find out.

Do any any of you have any views on what it is like out there and if it can be an enjoyable trade :?:

Where abouts in North Notts mate? I'll be able to tell you more because I'm in that area.

I suppose I was hoping for a response saying it's not that bad out there as long as you are sensible or just some feedback on what its like day to day.

I have always enjoyed working driving around the country visiting new and old customers, but after doing the same job for 25 years making a change in your working role is a massive step, which would surely make anyone a little nervous.

So was just looking for a bit of feedback or any pointers on what to avoid or to be wary of.

Well that's strange, I also live in Sutton but rightly or wrongly went for a Mansfield Badge.

Tim, what are you hoping to do, jockey, rent, plate your own car, hack or PH, car or WAV or 9 seater?

Initially rent a Private Hire Car and if all goes well plate my own, but just found out that my 6 year old Avensis is too old to get licensed, which is a blow, so would have to sell and buy a newer vehicle if all goes to plan.

Too old but perfectly capable and useable, LA's need to get real, theres a recession on

it would be too old here UNLESS it had "special features" like - leather seats and alloy wheels.....then its an exec vehicle....

In Brighton you can licence any car up to 10 yrs old! and if it is exceptional condition I believe(Sussex will correct me if I am wrong)
that you can keep it almost forever!
Back to the posters original question I have always found that you get out of the job whatever you put in! just dont expect too much
then you wont be disapointed.

Yes they are and Bolsover will licence anything with wheels. One Company in Mansfield sends their cars over to Bolsover when they've come to the end of their working life with Mansfield District Council as Hackney Carriages. They send them over to Bolsover who then plate them Hackney then the company brings them back into Mansfield to work as PH on a Hackney circuit

Love the job.

Dislike many people in it, but like a few more.

The longer you work, the more you will earn.

Will you become rich, no f***ing chance.

Nothing decided for definite but possibly one of the big 2, do you have any views regarding who to avoid or who you would recommend, are the bigger companies better or are the smaller companies better to work for?
