The question up for debate today as part of the Consultation was Should 16&17year olds be allowed the vote
My response was YES of course they should
We live in a modern world what with Technology and Social Networking, today's 16&17 year olds are more intellegent than the 16&17 year olds of the past, what i'm saying is they are more politically aware and especially on the matter of constitutional change.
This vote is not about changing the past but changing the future, their future, as a 47 year old i'm voting YES for their future n even their childrens future.
As long as the Pro independence parties talk in the language of the masses i have no doubt that 16&17 year olds will fully understand what it is they are voting for.
What do you think YES/NO
You truly are a nutjob.
It's because it's about the future that they shouldn't be allowed to vote. It's too important for them to get wrong.
Were I 16 now, I'd probably vote yes. But I'd be wrong. That says it all.
What we're talking about isn't independence.
We would still be subordinate to a bigger authority. Europe.
We would be investing our monetary control abroad. And wouldn't our Scots voice be barely audible over the clamour for European integration and empire building.
We would still have the discredited honours system propping up privilege. And we'd still have the monarchy, an anachronism promoted to ensure prevailing vested interests.
In short, what is proposed is not independence. It's about taking control away from Westminster and handing it to the clique in Holyrood for them to squander as they see fit, and for their own political advantage.
It's absolute folly.
Given that I am part English, aren't we all, why would I want to break away from the many family and friends I have living elsewhere in the UK, with whom I share a common purpose and goals, and when we're already adequately represented within the UK's bigger voice in Europe.
The SNP gambit is little more than out of date 20th century wish politics, which have no credence in a globalised world that is coming together, not splitting apart.
But I welcome the vote opportunity. Because, with their flagship policy defeated there will be no further need for the SNP. They can disband and we will all benefit from that.
So the vote really is to end the existence of the Scottish Nasty Party.
