So the meters are calibrated correctly, but how does this stop the drivers putting them to double fare?

I thought that with 'calendar meters' they couldn't put the extras on until such time and date as was fixed

Not all meters are calendar controlled. Ours aren't.

So the simple solution to this chaps problem is to have the council insist on calendar controlled meters

That wont solve the problem if the fares are going out of the prescribed distance.

That wouldn't work either. The biggest problem in my Borough is drivers who don't use the meter at all.

You could get the council to make the meters calendar control, in other words the rates will automatically show what the council has approved, and no iffy driver will be able to abuse/change the rate no matter how many buttons they press.

I have asked for Calendar Control before but the council will not allow it. We only got time and distance allowed last year after I have spent about 15 years trying to convince them to permit it, It turns out that they never even knew what it was!
I guess in another 15 years we might finally get calendar control. Our council really does not have a clue how this business works, and will not even allow me (or anyone else in the trade) to be an advisor to the licensing committee. They would rather just guess what to do, screw it up, have more committee meetings, screw it up some more and then along comes another election and a new committee and round we go again. No wonder they have lost control of the trade here ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)

Why not write to your new Licensing Chair advising her of the solution to her woes.

You don't need a pen pushers permission to regularly contact your councillors, just a phone.

In short most councillors know nothing about the trade, so you giving them the facts direct not only helps your cause, but helps them stop making buffoons of themselves.

Sometimes.

But seriously ring them up and arrange meetings. That's what they are there for.

That is probably the best answer in all this post.
