That would have to go through parliament first.

Do you think it would get very far?

Well Parliament is less politically correct now than it was under new Labour, but who knows?

Indeed, I can't remember if such an exemption was discussed when the legislation was enacted, thus was it actually debated and then decided it wasn't a goer, or was it perhaps simply never suggested?

But in theory it's conceviable that a disgruntled driver could challenge the legislation under the Human Rights Act on the basis that carrying dogs offends his/her religious sensibilities.

Just had a thought there when I automatically referred to 'his' but then decided to add 'her' lest anyone should think me sexist - are there many female Muslim drivers around?

This driver refused to take the blind man and his guide dog home because he was muslim. Does he refuse to pick up people who have been drinking alcohol or eating pork?

very true though !!

ps dusty there used to be a female muslim driver working Stamford but I haven't seen her about for over a year (and no she didn't wear a burka or habib) I think she was the wife or partner of another driver and she was not very popular with the other muslim drivers nor a good driver it was quite entertaining watching her try and reverse her car out of tescos !

The driver can clearly be heard asking where the blind guy is going.
If he refused for religious reasons, it would not have mattered where he was going.
