Men hurt in fall from roof of cab

Thursday 9 February 2012

Two men were injured today, one seriously, when they fell off the roof of a moving cab in Sheffield city centre.

They jumped onto the roof of the black cab as it stopped at traffic lights on Carver Street the junction with Division Street at around 2.35am and fell off as the cab drove off towards Charter Square.

Police said a 29-year-old from Woodhouse suffered a fractured skull, while the other - an 18-year-old from Intake - escaped with a minor head injury.

Anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 and quote incident 57 of Wednesday, February 8.

What's betting the driver gets charged for allowing passengers to be transported in a dangerous manner??

The thing with this is would the driver still be alive or even in a coma in hospital if he had stopped still and tried to order them off the roof. Its the same as those idiots that try to jump on and off moving freight trains to get a cheap ride home they were taking their lives in their hands doing it. Perhaps they saw that film that was on a few weeks ago about John Lennons early years there is a scene in that where they do the same thing but with a bus by standing on top of the bus shelter and climbing onto the roof

PS like the avatar gusmac !

I've looked it up for the last few hours and I can't see any misdemeanour under the heading, 'something' that the driver could be charged with.

I don't believe that you have spent the last few hours looking it up. If they can't find anything under something then whatever will have to do.

You're a good judge on the time factor.

I think 'driving with undue care and attention' might cover it if they are so inclined to charge the poor taxi driver for moving with idiots on his roof

Transporting passengers in an unsafe manor. I know someone who got some points for nearly the exact same thing, CU50 Causing or likely to cause danger by reason of load or passengers.

You think they fluttered gently on to the roof of this cab?
