There was a guy on the TV the other week saying how diesel was going to hit the £1.50 mark in a few weeks due to the tensions in Iran. Looks like he was right.

It's stubbornly locked at the £1.40 mark in the Brum area as a minimum, with many a few pence over that.

Even some of the Tescos are at 140.9p.

So yes, I think we're into another fuel price rise spiral.

I've seen Tesco at £141.9 the other day, I'm glad I didn't need filling up

wanna bet that somewhere, tucked away in a Ford or GM car factory development centre is a Mondeo-sized car, thats done 400,000 miles using its hydrogen fuel cell to generate electricity for its 4 electric motors, used nil petrol or diesel and wont be trotted out for the world to see or buy till the last drop of the black stuff has been sold to us at £10 a litre?

Saving 5p a gallon. I bet people are travelling miles past the Shell garage to go to Morrisons to put £21 in to save 20p?

Of course there is, any person stupid enough to deny it must be mad, if it were to be released it would kill off some of the car industry.

Now if only they could make a cab that does this
They had this car on a technology program yesterday, along with a small Peugeot smart and Nissan, the owners said it can charge at a rapid recharge point in 10 mins for around 20P

Wasn't there a lexus fuel cell powered car on general sale in the US ?But I think they limited the numbers available so you had to go on a waiting list

The replacement for petrol/diesel cars will not be on general sale while the big firms build millions of petrol/diesel engines in mega-buck engine building plants

Honda plant

Image

Quote:
The BMW Group’s largest engine plant is in the Upper Austrian town of Steyr, responsible for the production of four- and six-cylinder diesel and gasoline engines. Steyr is also acknowledged as the competence center for the development and production of diesel engines. Supplying BMW’s car production and engine plants with its products and processing other engine components from sister plants in Landshut, Munich or Berlin, Steyr plays an active part within the BMW production network.

Hams Hall Plant
The Hams Hall Plant near Birmingham builds gasoline engines between 1.6 and 2.0 liters. The Group’s new plant in Great Britain is the competence center within the network for the production of an all-new generation of four-cylinder gasoline engines featuring VALVETRONIC technology.

They are all building newer greener engines but how many full sized 4/5 door family petrol cars can hit 40mpg like a mk2 cortina used to?.....

If cars had been developed for MPG instead of BHP (which you can hardly use daily) wouldnt oil reserves lasted longer?

Get the first proper leccy/hydrogen cell cab you can, you could be the only car running the day the oil runs out or hits £10/ltr

My Galaxy will run on rape seed oil. The price of the rape seed oil went up so that the economics of using it were lost.

i bet it went up cos the oil companies bought it all and changed its uses into red or heating fuel, depriving motorists (those that could use it) from getting cheap motoring

the oil companies have so much money they can manipulate the markets and keep winning
