Doom
My dad died 7 years ago come 30/3/2012. It still smarts and I miss him. He was 85 though! However the send off was great and I know he would have enjoyed it in a perverse sense. He had lived in a home for 2 1/2 years after my mum died and I think he had just had enough. His clear instructions were "I don't want an expensive coffin, I want a cardboard box. I don't want an undertaker making too much f*****g profit out of me".
He wasn't a "believer" so non religious farewell. We had a bunch of family and friends all dressed in bright clothes, played Fleetwood Mac's Albertross as the curtains closed behind his cardboard box and then went to a good pub for a good meal, loads of beer and lots of happy memories.
I had to deal with the big C myself 5 years ago and it does make you focus on your own mortality. I'm a non believer but some of the teachings make sense. I try to go by treat others like you would like to be treated and let he who is without sin cast the first stone. I'm not a push over mind!
Its tough to deal with so sympathies.
