We have recently been having a fares revue in the borough. One of the companys that were asking for the 28 pence per journey increase have just told their drivers that there is not enough money comming in so they will now have to pay 67% of their take instead of 60%. The drivers are not happy. And if they continue to work there I would say that they are definately one of the other dwarves..........Dopey.

how much ! When I first started in the trade the firm I worked for had the drivers on a percentage deal with the drivers getting just a third but the norm is 40% or 50% after fuel

I won't put drivers on a percentage deal though because they are actually employed not self employed on a deal like that so if the inland revenue came knocking and the drivers hadn't been paying tax and NI guess who is liable as Stansted Airport cars found out to their cost a few years ago although I think in that case it was a judge ruling that a driver had been unfairly dismissed not the IR

as i found out over the years with courier and taxi work, you can buy cars but you cant buy good drivers

they will have a full car park

There is a meeting on Thursday at 5.00pm. The drivers are going to ask for a 50/50 split and if they don't get it they say they are going to walk. Apparently one of the drivers has got hold of one of my driver contracts  and is going to bring this up in support of their claim.
One driver has spoken to me about his takings last Saturday.
He worked from 6.00 PM until 5.00 AM and took £174. His take home for the 11 hour shift was £57.42. He drove 115 miles to earn this money. If he had rented one of my cars and did exactly the same take and miles he would have taken home £128.

So why don't the drivers threaten to take their dispute to ACAS after all if the cars are owned by the company and they are on a split purse deal they are actually employed by the company and are entitled to employees rights

Because like most drivers in this position, they haven't got a clue. The woman that answers the phone and passes out the jobs has been told that she is self employed. She gets £4.00 per hour.

That is a prime example why the bonded slavery of the PH operator system needs to be urgently looked at by the Law Commission.

HC plate barons and PH bonded slave masters are both born of the same womb!

Companies that do this need 'Outing'. Quite how to do this effectively is, as yet, beyond me.

Should I investigate as to how it could be done?

Or is that beyond the brief of TDO?

More wholesale abuse on the part of PH operators, why is it nobody seems interested in looking into them, why is it only the drivers getting the stick thrust up to their tonsils all the time, as I've been at this 26 years now I've watched the type of person change in the job, where once you had a community thing going on it's now all about profit profit profit, the office I worked in at an early stage had an owner who was more like a mate, now the radio is 3X what it was, they run on a fare scale that worries the bus company and employ migrant workers mostly so they can maintain the cheap fares, I think in this country it's a disgrace, what they are doing to these people is nothing short of what a British firm manufacturing in Asia was ten years ago, sadly this is how mankind is, he will take advantage and he won't see the long term damage he's doing, only upside is when they die they will know it isn't theirs anymore and HMRC helped themselves to 40% of it.

It's coming to the time where drivers should form co-op's and breakaway, 100 owner drivers can put in minimal investment, set a reasonable radio charge and compete against the bigger firm, all you have to do is give good service and the phone will ring and other drivers will follow you over eventually, I've got my plan worked out, I just need to feel the need to do it now, I know the sweet spot between cost and service, and those that only want a cheap ride, well I don't want them anyway, they are always the complex hire, I want customers who want a service and don't make a driver feel like he needs to F1 this one to have to spend the shortest time with....I wanna go to this flat to get some coke, then I wanna get some beer from the mini mart, and then HOW MUCH! at the end of it, noooo thx.
