You've got Wonga dot com to thank for the busy nights, many people seem to be using these companies so they can have a weekend out on the beer.

I do not think that we are out of it by a long way - this could very well become the way that we live............up one week...............down the other three. There is money out there, but people are being very choosy as to how they spend it............the days of boom bust are finished for the sensible ones. As the seasons go it will be peaks and troughs, with the occasional high thrown in, the rest will be very predictable.

Well last night I did 7 hours for £25, most other drivers the same. Take off the £35 rent and fuel and I'm only down by a tenner, so yeah better than most nights

You wouldn't think there was a recession here. Council are going to spend £140 MILLION on a bloody garden FFS

Made my money but had to work harder-a hackney told me the ranks were "horrendous" so i think without a radio a lot are struggling now.We have hackneys with radios who prefer to rank up with private hire most of the time as they earn more than taxi ranks due to weight of hackneys queuing for jobs

I know the lads on the ranks in Derby are struggling but my airport bookings were exactly 100% up on last year in Jan & Feb.Cab drivers are victims of the demise of the High St I'm afraid.Less people shopping means less taxi journey's.On the flip side though, talking to business men & women, there's plenty of industries out there doing well.Maybe the press and TV should concentrate on them rather than the constant doom and gloom they peddle.

I agree the demise of the high st isn't helping taxi drivers, but, I'm not entirely sure it's because people are shopping less. I think over the years shopping habits have changed but taxi drivers habits have not. I can't agree more with you regarding the doom and gloom news stories, it would be nice to hear of success stories that would create a feel good feeling again, perhaps

I'm more of a night man, and don't think I've seen things as bad as the last few weeks. It doesn't seem to be picking up at all. Into March now, everyone's been paid and it's still like mid-January.
