£50 only buys about 35 litres these days. How many cars have a tank smaller than that?

Tis a magnificent plan from Cameron & Co, lets sell 20X as much fuel in one hit at top dollar, get 7/10 motorists filled up so by the time any strike happens they won't need to worry anyway as they don't do any mileage anyway, then when the strike hits you only have basically essential drivers needing to fill back up, could also be a ploy, if the demand has fallen recently due to the price of fuel maybe the refineries are stocked up to a level where they must make room for new stocks, what better than to use the population as a storage tank and have them fork for it as well.

I'm going to say there isn't going to be a strike, all the parts are in place for a magnificent sting, and it's me and you who got stung.

round our way as soon as the petrol stations get down to a certain level they put up signs saying emergency services only so if you haven't got a police/ambulance or fire services uniform on you can't have any taxis were NOT given any preferential treatment.

I did hear a rumour from one petrol station though that drivers from Buncefield which supplies some of our locals were already working to rule which was slowing deliveries down not heard anything on the news though

Just came across an interesting bit of info the tanker drivers are obliged by law to give at least 7 days notice of a strike and apparently formal notice has Not been issued according to the info supplied by two local petrol petrol stations to our local rag. All they have done is indicate when they are most likely to strike

So is this meant to be a proper strike or just a couple of days unofficial holiday?

Supposed to be a proper strike by all accounts.

The Modern way is to Strike for A couple of days..Go back to work for a week to try and catch up on overtime, but never quite catch up on demand...then Strike again.

It does not hit the Strikers so hard in the pocket that way yet still causes maximum disruption for minimum loss of earnings.

Yes a lorry driver can do overtime.
As for the couple of days holiday, well it could be tagged on to the end of the bank holiday if they are quick.

only within UK driver hours, and no more

its probably changed since i drove on tacho

drive a max of 10 hours twice a week BUT only 4.5 hrs in one go, so 10 hours requires 2 x 45 minute breaks

3 reduced breaks in any weekly period.

A Weekly period is the time between weekly rest periods and is a maximum of 6 periods of 24 hours.

Each of these 24 hour periods must end with a 11 hour daily rest period which can be reduced on 3 occasions to 9 hours.

How you would actually work it is

Day 1: work 15 hours then take 9 hours off = 24

Day 2: work 15 hours then take 9 hours off = 24

Day 3: work 15 hours then take 9 hours off = 24

Day 4: work 13 hours then take 11 hours off = 24

Tanker strikes only need pre-planning to cripple the UK with a few days here and there

garages (and almost every supermarket) run on JIT - Just In Time, delay a delivery 1 day, and have some panic buying and bingo, pumps run dry

People queuing all day till 2am here then the garages ran dry. Apparently there were queues again from 6am so deliveries must have arrived.
