Keighley minicab boss told to pay £200,000 or go to jail



A minicab firm boss jailed for four years for using his cars to peddle drugs on the streets has been ordered to stump up £200,000 of his ill-gotten gains.

Shahid Saleem (above), who drove a £45,000 BMW M3 convertible, is the latest of the area’s wrong doers to feel the force of a police pledge to “make them suffer financial pain and make no gain.”

Saleem, a former school learning mentor, ran his drug-dealing business while operating Arrows Private Hire in Lord Street, Keighley. The 35-year-old, of Ashleigh Street, Showfield, Keighley, was convicted by a jury in 2009 of possessing heroin, cocaine and crack cocaine with intent to supply. He pleaded guilty to possession of GHB and amphetamine.

Police found £1,760 in bank notes contaminated with heroin under a mattress when they searched his home in 2007.

Officers seized 28 bags of heroin and crack cocaine from one of his firm’s vehicles.

Saleem, who has served his prison sentence, returned to the court this week for a three-day confiscation hearing under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

When questioning him about his financial position, Andrew Kershaw, barrister for the Crown, asked him how much he paid for the hooded top and jeans he was wearing.

Saleem, a father-of-four, was ruled to have benefited to the tune of £221,616 from his illegal activities. His available assets were fixed by the court at £205,490.

He was given six months to hand over the money or face going back to jail for two-and-a-half years.

Saleem’s barrister, Abdul Iqbal, said his client would need to sell a home to raise the cash.

After the hearing, Detective Constable Paul Harrison, of Airedale and North Bradford's Proceeds of Crime Act Team, said: “We welcome the decision of the courts to confiscate such a large sum from Saleem which officers were able to persuade the courts he had gained from criminal activity.

“This is the latest in a series of truly significant seizures awarded so far this year by the courts.

My thoughts to.

A friend of mine says they are encouraged to buck the system from birth, my personal thoughts having delt with them for a very long time, long before they became cabbies is if they think they can get a bit more they don't care if it's legal or not and will try, the obsession with money is unbelievable with them, I've watched them tuck each other up over the years, there are also white varieties of this model as well, but it seems almost every story is about an Asian breaking the law, stupid thing is even though they are obsessed if they like you they will bend over backwards for you, it really doesn't add up unless I've a knack for selecting the better ones to hold court with.

Best you open those biased eyes then.

Not really, my eyes are open, it's the likes of you who choose to point fingers at anyone who dares make a comment that is bias really, and if you are saying the numbers say different then they may well do but the percentages say different, of course other creeds commit crimes as well I'm not denying that, and they should be sorted as well,

Every time I see a young Asian girl out with the girls enjoying herself on a night out I think good on yer girl, because if you knew just how oppressed the Asian female is you'd be routing for her as well if she is breaking loose from it, the more Asian's that do break away from the old oppression thing from Asia the less likely there will ever be a race war, and that's a good thing isn't it?

Now, as for me I speak my mind, I always have and I always will, I don't bow to bullies or position bullies who think they out rank me, I'm class, a class well above most of what lives here, but my class isn't based on materials, I'm class because I see around me and ain't a scaredy cat who looks the other way when things look a bit too unsavoury, had this whole issue been sorted out from day one there would be no issue, but ppl in the past chose to look the other way and now someone in the future has got to sort it all out, if that's even possible now,

If only you'd see forward, right now the country is heading towards Asian rule, this will happen because they are breeding us 5-1, do the maths, the guy in Norway who massacred his own last year, he did it because some idiot decided Norway should take in 200k of Somalian's, y'know those lovely kidnapping murders off the east coast of Africa that the Royal Navy is constantly kept busy with, now I hear what's wrong with that? well Norway had a population of 5 Million, and now has 200k immigrants that come from an area that civilisation doesn't exist, just a year on and guess what, Oslo has seen a big increase in rape and theft, great eh, you make the common mistake of judging all by your own standards and that is the biggest mistake you can ever make, and the old saying goes you can take the boy out of Somalia but you can't take the Somalia out of the boy, no doubt there was someone in Norway defending them while ignoring all the chaos they are now causing,

p.s, another thing I should mention, I'm not actually pure British, I'm half British and 2x 1/4 European from 2 very different countries, so I understand the will to want to better yourself myself, but that doesn't mean come wipe your feet all over me.

I have long since stopped reading long posts.

However if the above post casts doubt on what I have said then I suggest you or anyone goes to the nearest court house and see exactly what the ethnic make up of offenders is.

Ok, lets approcach it from a different angle.

Lets concern ourselves with cabbies rather than the whole body of resident Asian's then

Locally I hear almost every day of a customer saying they got overcharged or took the long way by one of them

The fact that everyone is scared to say anything to the proper avenue's for fear of being branded racist means that even though the act took place it wasn't reported

We have an Asian PH baron locally, he's been done for human trafficking but still allowed to hold 150+ licenses?

The other way to look at at is volumes, in the days of the MK3 Cortina Ford got branded rustbuckets, the figures looked that way as well until you lifted the carpet, real fact was yes the Ford went rusty but so did all the other cars on the road, but because Ford sold 100X more units than say Datsun etc the Ford looked bad and the Datsun looked good, purely because the 20 ppl owning a Datsun out of the 1000 that owned one bothered to say it was a rusty car, where 200k out of the 5 Million Ford owners saying the Ford was rusty made the Datsun look 200 times better than the Ford

Now you can bury your head in the sand about these issues, but as far as the cab game goes they haven't done the game any favours as a whole, and like I said, if the people reported it each time the figures would look a whole lot different.

Still at least I know now if I smile at you and say hello IRL I can get away with anything I like with you, because you'll think, hey he's a nice chap and your guard will be relaxed.
