we have a new driver who works part time as his second job but driving his own car. Today he turned round to me and asked can i have a word. He expained that the other night he took a fare who commented about being charged the correct fare on tarriff 1 £5.60 but had been charged £8.10 for the same journey earlier in the week (not by our firm ) then the passenger told the driver I'm the editor of the Mercury(Local rag) do you mind if I use your firm in a story I want to run about this and the driver told him yes

Not being funny but I know this local rag of old they are friends to NO ONE !!!! and use things like this to run Anti campaigns which sell their newspapers so my firm is now going to get used to create mayhem and mischief by the local rag which as per usual has not checked out its facts such as the fact that fares are deregulated here so without establishing who the other taxi was it is not possible to say for sure he was overcharged

Time to get out the bullet proof vest and tin hat methinks !!

Why?

You charged the correct price, someone else didn't. :?

And since when did anyone have an opt out of what goes in a newspaper?

Especially if they print exactly what happened.

You clearly don't know the stamford Mercury it operates to the same ethical standards of the news of the world did ! It may be the oldest newspaper in britain but it operates to modern "standards" This will be an excuse for taxi bashing on a grand scale it will rubbish the trade big style and the paper will name me or my drivers as the whistle blower when in actual fact I haven't done anything this will cause even further problems to those that I already have things are getting nasty out there and it is only a matter of time before vehicles get attacked etc.

At the moment we are doing quite well compared to some of the competition that is in a large part to blame for the level of animosity that currently exists something like this could cause things to spill over ! Oh yes and my refusal to let any tom dick or harry work on my board that also p*ss%s many drivers off because my drivers are earning better money than them

My point is that the newspaper is going to print what happened irrespective of your, or the drivers, approval, because it happened.

If they print something that isn't true then you have redress.

Well I guess you'll have to play the 'wait and see' game. No point in worrying until you have something to worry about seeing as there is nothing you can do about it

if you dont like what they print, request they then print a retraction or a statement by you (in your own words) or you will seek further legal advice
