'Gooogle cars' set to open in Streatham

The taxi firm's sign on Streatham High Road.

A taxi firm in Streatham has stolen the logo of a well-known internet search engine for its business.

The company, named Gooogle cars, recently appeared on Streatham High Road with a sign which directly resembled the homepage for the popular internet site of a very similar name.

The firm advertises a 24 hour car service for people wanting to travel to stations, airports and theatres. One bemused passersby took to Twitter and posted a picture of the taxi company’s sign, with another user commenting; “I predict a lawsuit!”

Last year, Google warned a Chinese search engine to change its homepage logo after it produced an image using the word “Goojje”.

Google did not respond to requests for a comment about the latest imitation, but on its own website it said: “Do not shorten, abbreviate, or create acronyms out of Google trademarks.

“We are passionate about protecting the reputation of our brand as an objective and fair provider of search results.

“That means we have to turn down many requests [for use of Google brand features] because sites imply that Google is endorsing them or is otherwise affiliated with them.”

A spokesperson for the cab firm was unavailable for comment.

Give them a few weeks until Googles lawyers get on the case and it'll be no more, unless a back street minicab firm fancy taking on a global player.

Can't see it myself.

If they are licensed by the public carriage office did they not query the trading name before granting a license ?

They might get away with "Micra-shite" it would be a fair description of the average vehicle?

I suspect the license has been given to an individual.

It's really none of their business and I doubt they'd take much interest other than to perhaps offer some friendly advice.

It's basically a trademark dispute between the two parties in the commercial sector, as per previous wrangles where taxi businesses use the same or similar names. Not really a licensing matter as such.
