I had an email off Northamptonshire CC

"Your details as a registered school contract supplier have been passed to us, if you wish to be added to the Northants supplier list blah/blah heres the framework tender"

Except im 50 miles from them across about 5 LA's (at least) and have Warks/Leics/Coventry councils between me and them

BUT, for some, i can see the "silly price" squad looking afar and still putting in prices, so whats next, a National framework? (whats a cross border hiring again?)

It is not cross border hiring though, provided the job is booked by the council through the booking office and the car and driver are from the same LA. The border is about 20 miles from me but I wouldn't be suprised if they send kids from say Corby to one of the schools near me. They have 3 cars a day from Derby bringing kids in and I know that there is one from London.

Hey, don't worry, in a few years they will all be filled by drivers with uncheckable CRB histories, feel confident the man driving your kid may just have a very bad history to him, still yer kids are safe aren't they and as long as it's not your kid to hell with it if it goes wrong, we can all look sad and outraged for a few days and then carry on like nothing happened can't we, it's the British way now, money before safety, I cannot wait to emigrate, for the tax I won't then pay it will fund a health insurance policy elsewhere in the world,

If they want to save money why don't they start slashing their outstanding wages instead of trimming someone whose already struggling, you get what you pay for in the end, and sadly this trade is now finished, I know when I move on I won't be taking taxis at all, I'd rather walk or get a bus than help someone who destroyed my job.

I think I know what job you will move on to when you go. You will be a volunteer with the samaritans wont you?

If every transport supplier across the the UK has access to tenders whats to stop Macs Cabs (Ullapool) sending a car to stay over in (say) Bude monday-friday term time to cover a job (assuming its worth doing) or a firm who want to start a PH firm 100 miles away bidding on a load of runs just to win them, then covering a bunch of runs with vehicles till they can plate locally?...

or is it just thier way of trebling the incoming bids trying to save 5p a day when (as has been said) the transport dept is generally overstaffed and overpaid and dont take a cost saving offer when its on the table (as with me in January)?

There is absolutly nothing to stop this. That is the EU for you. In theory any one in Europe can tender for any government/local government contract.
