The other consideration is the HC will use the lane maybe once in a 2 hour period where AL and co will be in it constantly, it's obvious why he's kicking up, he knows there is olympic money to be had and may even have a contract in the offering providing he can offer a fast service from a to b, but as it stands his cars are going to be sat in a queue all summer while the HC whizzes by and gets the tourist with a fat wallet there in time.

I believe like most London Private Hire Firms he is not in the least bit interested in ferrying tourists to and from the Olympics any more than the Black Cabs will - it's going to be a mess :). I again believe he was asked to do some of the work but refused after access to the "priority lanes" was refused.

Hailo has 4000 drivers on the app.

TLC has 700 active drivers.

Get Taxi, who are making inroads to the account world, have 2500.

Addison Lee have about 3500 drivers.

The apps are relatively new, give them time, inroads will be made.

He has an enormous advantage as he has Apps for iPhone, Android, Blackberry, Nokia and Windows Phone.

Most companies only have one or two of these options.

True, but JGs apps been around for a few years now, the Taxi ones are still quite new. Hailos out front and even though I'm not on it, I wish them luck as they have some rather interesting backers from the world of Skype etc.

Most of the taxi apps are aimed at the apple and android owners.

I'm guessing ALs biggest downloads will be for the above two as well?

My big reservation with Hailo and Get Taxi are that they forget their roots and sell out for a few quid.

If I was Mr Griffin's QC at the High Court I would make the following comments, in respect of what TfL will say.

Mr TfL, you say that you allow London black cabs in the bus lanes as they are the only ones able to ply for hire in London, that they are all wheelchair accessible, and that allowing access to 40-60,000 minicabs will block up the bus lanes, yet you allow the 40-60,000 non local taxis in the bus lanes, that they can't ply for hire, and they aren't all wheelchair accessible and don't pay a penny towards their upkeep.

Why?

And how many of these out of town taxis are in London at any one time Mr Griffins QC?

Answer . . . 12? A few dozen? Maybe 100 on a Saturday night when the lanes aren't in force?

How many London minicabs are in the central area of a day? Thousands? Tens of thousands?

Big difference.

Irrelevant.

The mere fact that they allow vehicles that don't meet the criteria they mentioned in their press release will make them look a tad iffy.

They made a big thing about wheelchair accessibility yet that doesn't apply to all cabs allowed in the bus lanes, same with the ability to ply.

I find when you are heading for court, giving an honest balanced account is a good way to win.

All TfL need say is that with all those extra minicabs in the lanes they would be made ineffective.

However should TfL go that way then that could lead to black cabs being banned as well.

The chances of minicabs gaining long term access to the bus lanes is, at best 1%, the chances of black cabs keeping long term access to the bus lanes is, IMO, 50/50.

That's easy, a bit like a lot of Bus Lanes state 'TfL buses only', or 'local buses only', we can have TfL licensed taxis only.

I should go for a job at TFL.

That of course will be a solution to one part of the problem/issue, but I'm not sure it will address the competition problem/issue.

If black cabs didn't do radio work then I think the chances of Mr Griffin wining would be slim, but as 1000s do, I'm not sure he will lose.
