I don,t hear the disability groups kicking up a Hullabaloo when its their beloved Volunteer/Charity drivers using Rear Loaders..and lets face it almost all of them do. Or is that because they,re cheaper.

And of course all the vehicles that are provided for wheelchair passengers for their relatives to drive them around in which are almost all rear loaders (Ford Chairman etc) and for that matter adapted vehicles for those that can drive which are usually tail lift

and would a side loading vehicle be any safer if the accident bent the chassis jamming the sliding doors shut ?

thats like saying what if Wile E. Coyote ordered a cab for roadrunner below a cliff with a massive rock

I did hear of one about 5 years ago where a wheelchair passenger was stuck inside after the taxi was hit by a lorry on a motorway can't remember the details though

I wonder how many people oppose rear-entry WAVs yet support multi-seaters sitting punters behind the middle row of seats away from the side doors?

Maybe all of them.

If the truth be known its about the cost of purchase of the vehicle, especially in a deregulated area where vehicles like the doblo are basically the same price, if not cheaper than saloon cars?

Funny thing.... I thought we are referring to professional taxi drivers... not volunteer workers or family members.... a council has a duty of care.... and when licensing a vehicle,. they should have looked at the possibilities that would put the customer in danger...... and made their decisions accordingly.... after all if they licence a vehicle that in Design holes a danger to the public... and something were to happen..... they would have failed in their duty of care ..... it would be their fault not the owners... they would be paying out. big-time.
