ill have to shop around then, assuming i wish to use my current ( condemned and ancient) Mondeo tdci, i mean at 6 years old and 145K miles its obviously both well past it and a death trap (unless i pay treble the fee they charge for the same car FIVE years old).....

You could try the council ombudsman first though

I think you have to make an offical complaint to the council first. If the council do not resolve the problem, then you can go to the ombudsman.

i best wait till im replated, this one will end in the school holidays

whats the angle, unfair regs, the age issue, the 3x testing or the three times costs?

"In these difficult financial times, is it right that due to a vehicle having its 6th birthday the cost of plating goes from £180 a year to £540, with no consideration as to mileage, i.e. a 3 year old car on 250K mileage is ok wheras a 6 year old on 100K costs three times as much to plate"

or

"You robbing gits, stuff this next door take 10 year old cars, charge half what you charge and have hackney plates by the skipfull"

I guess it depends on the standard of vehicle your area has, if the council can see that it's all hammered out [edited by admin] then I guess it's their duty to make sure it still has brakes through each year,

You may well keep a good vehicle Wannas, but what are the rest like, even so I admit 3x seems extreme.

or telford was it?

ill ask

Don't forget if you plate outside the borough you will have to be Hackney

But I don't see why you have to replate your vehicle 3 times a year I am not aware of any other council doing that they should charge you an amount for the annual plate and then for each test

three tests i dont mind, but paying £180 for a glorified MOT when they can be had from £30 - and the LA accept one from elsewhere for the plate - is taking the pee

what would make sense is the normal annual fee then two extra tests (without any need for new 4 monthly plates) at £50 a throw, no-one would mind

i can get a hack plate in my old LA (13 miles away, the same distance as my current LA but over the border) but need a 3 year old car for a first grant plate, another local LA is cheaper and only introduced hack meters a year ago, i live near the meeting place of 4 or 5 LA's and its bandit country out here

the twist in the tale is that my LA is also my landlord, if i jack in guess who has to pay my £5000 a year rent and £1200 a year council tax....hohoho, revenge is sweet
