Taxi operators clash over advert claims

TAXI operators are claiming that the district council has illegally prevented one of their number from working.

Now the taxi owner, Ayaz Ahmed from Luton, is threatening to claim loss of earnings from the council.

The National Taxi Association, which is based in Carlisle, claims a council licensing enforcement officer removed Mr Ahmed's identification plates and prevented him from working.

The association maintains that following its advice to Mr Ahmed, his plates were returned later in the week.

But a spokesperson for the council denied that anyone had acted illegally.

She said Mr Ahmed's licence had been suspended after complaints that he had broken a condition banning him from carrying advertising on the vehicle.

He had then applied for the licence to be renewed but the plate had been withheld because the council was not aware he had appealed against the decision.

She added: "As soon as it was confirmed that he had lodged an appeal with the magistrates court, his plates were returned to him."

But St Albans Taxi Association spokesperson Michael Ball said local operators were unhappy with the treatment they received from the licensing officers and would be meeting to draw up a list of grievances which would be passed to the council.

Cllr Robert Donald, chairman of the council's cabinet and the portfolio holder responsible for licensing, said the complaints would be considered once they were received.

I think the NTA will have a long wait Captain.

This trade isn't known for it's loyalty, or it's appreciation.

It would be interesting to find out how many of those that joined the T&G pre OFT, have stayed members. :-$

dont just pick out the OFT sussex, theres other rather mundane issues where the national bodies have freely assisted to be effectively stabbed in the back.

I think Watford is one area of concern, love them or hate them, the national body concerned didnt deserve that.

I think Darlo is the same, but dont quote me, i still await confirmation.

Its the leadership tend to blame, the trade ijn some areas doesnt see the whole picture and doesnt involve their membership in it.

With eeeejuts involved the world would still be flat
