I can hardly believe that a trade that is hit so heavily by the recession could indulge in a debate about whether or not they would be happy to accept fares based on how far they are travelling. What on earth is going on. Is it just that all taxi drivers in Brum do not need to earn money. I know I need to. : (
There's a big difference between earning money and making a living, earning money could mean any small profit after costs, however to earn a living you need an amount of money that you and yours can survive on after costs.
It would be a foolish person who turns down a 400 mile run for say £275.00 because they were not flexible enough to give a £25.00 discount off a set in stone price of £300 in order to make themselves competitive with the other Taxi in town. The result could be that you sit all day and make £50 quid of profit on little runs at full price, whilst the opposition makes £200 of profit due to their modest flexibility on a discounted price..
Its the reality of the hard times we live in I'm afraid..that said, there,s some real assholes out there who do runs so cheap they need their heads looked at!!!
