I have been an owner driver for the last 24 years and I now feel that the trade should put presure on the Governement to allow use to claim back the VAT that we have to pay on everything relating to the taxi trade IE the cab, fuel, and repaires and servicing, especialy all the comanys who do not reach the VAT threshold
last year for egample I payed £3600 for diesel which would have only been £2970 if it had been VAT free saving £630, I could have put the savings into a pension or be able to take more time off ( work 70 hours a week)

Problem is that if they were to let us claim the VAT paid back, then they would presumably want to treat your take as VAT inclusive, which is in fact what happens with those in the trade over the VAT threshold.

Thus you would end up worse off.
