Taxi Driver Online

One of our drivers recently got pulled up for sitting plotted up outside his LA area

My understanding is that a PHC can sit anywhere as long as his job is booked through a booking office in his LA area and said job either starts or finishes within the LA area


Anyone confirm or rubbish this?

What were the further circumstances of the driver's pull?

Who pulled him, what did they say, what did the driver say, what did he do, what did the puller do, etc.

Your understanding is correct, I suggest you e-mail a copy of the Law Commission report to them.

Not only can you sit where you like (with the anti touting/plying caveats), but any the licensing officer in the other area has no powers to enforce his rules on the vehicle licensed elsewhere.

I don't think the understanding is totally correct. Provided the job was booked through the booking office correctly the job itself does not have to start, end or even go through his LA.

Where the job starts and finishes is irrelevant.

If the driver is licensed in Scotland but the job is in England it's even more irrelevant.

I usually use the presumption that unless the post is in the Scottish section then it's not referring to Scotland.

Basically our radio base are saying were not allowed to plot Glasgow airport as we're Glasgow based and the airport is in Renfrew councils area not glasgows but they are only saying the airport with no mention of other plots on our system that are outside our LA are ie paisley Hamilton Coatbridge etc



On a totally not relevant note the owner of our radio base happens to have a tender in for the airport taxis for one of his other ph firms obviously a massive co incedince

You can plot any area you want, the law is older than computer dispatch systems.

What you must not do is hang around out of area for a job to come off.
You can only accept a job when:

1 in your area
2 out of area with a job aboard
3 returning directly to your area after 2 (no detours for a burger or shopping at tesco)

Thanks for clearing that up what legislation is that listed in? It's a big issue of complaint for our drivers ATM as we've plotted the airport and been able to sit free on it since before my time

6 years driving PH and I'm still learning just seems strange that it's our radio base
Making waves about it rather than our LA or another LA
