GMB SEEKS URGENT MEETING WITH 24/7 STANSTED CAB COMPANY TO AVOID DISPUTE OVER CUTS TO DRIVERS

24/7 inherited a dedicated highly experience workforce and within a few weeks it has destroyed all trust between drivers and the company says GMB

GMB members working for 24/7 taxi firm at Stansted Airport attended a packed meeting on the 21st May at Stansted. GMB members at the meeting decided to seek an urgent meeting with the company over the imposition of draconian changes to terms and conditions to avoid a dispute which will inconvenience the travelling public.

24/7 is one of 6 private hire companies at Stansted Airport. It was awarded a private hire franchise at Stansted Airport by airport owners BAA on 1st March 2012 as Checker Cars made way for them. They operate many of the same vehicles.

GMB members unanimously agreed to consider action if taxi company 24/7 does not immediately enter into meaningful negotiations regarding the company's attempt to impose earnings cuts and the removal of job security agreements.

Terry Flanagan, GMB Branch Secretary of the Professional Drivers Branch, said, "This company's behaviour is unparalleled in my experience. They summoned drivers individually into the company office and presented them with which is in effect a contract that removes their rights under the threat of dismissal. This beggars belief but that is what the company have done. They may well rue their decision.

24/7 inherited a dedicated highly experience workforce and within a few weeks it has destroyed all trust between drivers and the company. Let's hope negotiations will commence soon or if not the travelling public may be inconvenienced. I wonder if BAA does any research into the track records of the companies it awards franchises to. Maybe they should re-evaluate 24/7".

The application of local standards could also assist in making the demarcation between taxis and private hire vehicles obvious, for example through imposing a specific colour scheme or signage on taxis.

And here was me thinking it was the mish-mash of local standards that was causing the confusion.

So who are the other 5 on tuesday night when I was there I saw loads of PH cars with all over vinyls branded 24/7 and a few police cars

Couldn't you put something to that effect in your signature?

By the way, did anyone ever tell you how remarkably like Leon Trotsky you look?
