To ask the Scottish Executive whether it plans to review the law in relation to the licensing of private hire cars.

We are currently looking at a range of issues related to taxi and private hire car licensing to see where changes are needed to legislation and guidance from the Scottish Government. We aim to have a public consultation on options for change in the Autumn.

I think they should give Ph, drivers time enough to pass the knowledge test, in what cities and towns have a test, and allow them to put hire lights on their vehicles for picking up on the street. Then force them all down the WAV, route when their vehicles come to be replaced. A nice level playing field for everyone concerned. :-|

Oh and then give anyone that can pass the brief a plate, if they want one. :)

Problem solved. :D

Nice idea but I don't see it happening.

More likely we'll end up with some of the LC proposals currently occupying the minds of our southern brethren

Daft Idea...PH are not doing the kind of work Hacks do. Its a Completely different type of service we offer and bears no relevance to Taxi work, If you don't want a PH don't book a PH, we PH can be more flexible simply because we don't have to take whoever want's to climb in the back or whoever hails us on the street. and as theres Probably more PH than hacks then why should the tail want to wag the dog.

That may be the case where you are, but here the PH and the taxis work on the same circuits and do more or less the same job.

That aside, the same PH barons who are driving the LC at the moment, will also have their eyes on the Scottish market as well.

It's the perfect solution for policing the trade, and it meets the needs of the traveling public.

As I said before, problem solved.

But does it meet the needs of the likes of Addy Lee?

I don't see why not. It's not like you would be bringing in the new regulations over night. And the knowledge test would only affect those in the Cities. As for the WAV vehicle type, it's fair if it's an all-or-nothing scenario. Why should it be compulsory for some and not for others?

That would be all qualified drivers with the choice to own or drive.

The police would be happy as would the public.

Addy Lee would just have to lump it. :)

Addy Lee wouldnt, and they'd go for national business as opposed to taking your granny to the shops.....no big deal....but in making the pool smaller for everyone else, it means everyone else wants a bit of your cake.

But dont worry, it'll only be Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen maybe.....at first.

Com Cabs are in some of those places aint they?
