Another one bites the dust!!

Now Gary Cahill has been ruled out with a double fracture of the jaw bone.

How many more players are we going to lose?

FFS!!

That is almost impresive, knowing the size of the goal, however, the ball does not have to be kicked into the net. It only has to cross the whole of the goal line.

Does the net not cover the majority of the space after the goal line :?

Most of the net is about 6 feet behind the goal line. The net does not form part of the field of play. The lines around the perimiter of the field of play, the goal posts, crossbar and corner flags are also part of the field of play. A goal is scored when the whole of the ball crosses the whole of the goal line between the goal posts and under the crossbar.

But not into the net as stated in your original post.
In fact there is nothing in the laws of the game that states that there must be a net attached to the goal. The law just states that a net may be used provided that it does not interfere with the goalkeeper.
