Taxi Driver Online

The root cause for drivers having to work long hours for little pay is simple... there are governed by the private hire companies... they do not work for them... the companies are simply agents for them.... they exclude themselves from any responsibility regarding drivers wages and safety..... if drivers disagree they are simply told to leave..... if drivers say there are too many on their system they are told to go.... the problem is the private hire companies.... and private hire drivers are equally to blame for letting it happen... none of the private hire companies can function without licence drivers.. when the drivers realise what power they have.... they will break free... the Hackney Trade is totally different matter....

Well that's one of the strangest remarks I've seen yet on the subject, but let's no go there, unless of course you're a female with a reasonably presentable crotch

But in any case I can't really see the difference between the PH and HC sectors in this regard.

I will try to explain.... in Sefton we have 2700 private hire... and 270 hackney.... the private hire companies are obviously our competition..... recently I had to go to hospital and I phoned for a private hire car... the cost was £5. ..... the next day I came home in a Liverpool hackney the cost was £8.80 ....... same journey.... now Sefton hackney's would have charged £6 ........ if we charge any more then we will have no work... we will have out priced ourselves from the competition..... now there is no doubt that the rate is too low....... and the only people making money are the private hire company owners.

So the answer Hack and PH drivers are too stupid to get together and design a scheme where they all earn a living for providing an essential service to Joe public who at certain times have no alternative transport available to them ie a MONOLOPY.

what a clever lot they must be?

Obviously more hours for less money than any other worker says it all CRETINS, very likely judging by some eejits on here !

To be fair to the average ph driver they're probably too engrossed in trying to earn a living and don't have the finance or the time to set up a co-operative. That aside trying to get lots of drivers to agree on how the company is run is a nightmare of huge proportions. The alternative is action against the operator which again falls down due to the greed of some drivers who would take advantage of the situation. Finding a caring operator is nigh on impossible.
