The council will just tell us what the tariff will be and that will be that.

I wish we had a pro-active council like that.

Providing the tariff is upwardly mobile of course.

The chap from the council was saying that any rise is likely to be in line with the RPI. So it looks like running a taxi will be compared to buying a tin of beans and nothing to do with drivers earning a living and maintaining a car.

What's a certificate of calibration?

When the meter is set and sealed the company doing the setting and sealing will issue a certificate stating that the meter has been set and sealed to the council tariff.

Oh, right.

I was just wondering you see. Our latest tarrif change came in February this year. The council did not require a certificate of calibration, and have not made any arangement for meter testing and sealing. Could be any old tarrif in them there meters, couldn't it?
One driver, an agent for one particular brand of meter was told he could reset the tarrif in other taxi's, but not his own.

Correct me if I am wrong. A meter fitted into a vehicle is first callibrated by it's pulse rate, and once covering a measured mile accurately will not need ressetting. The tarrif is then installed, and can be reset in the future without altering the calibration?

So why would you need a "Certificate of calibration" when there is a fare increase?

That is what is in the policy and it can't be changed until the policy is reviewed.

In legal terms they are 'fettering their discretion', in other words acting unlawfully.

To confirm that the meter has been changed to the approved rate by an approved dealer.

Then you miss the point I make.

If the meter is correctly calibrated, there is no need to adjust it, even for a new fare.

But meters go wrong, or the battery runs out. Thus the meter will need to be reset.

Meters do not "go Wrong" they either work or don't work.

The battery will not "run out" (used to, on a taxitronic in the eighties) still got one of them big grey monsters Sussex?

I've never had a meter problem in years.

Thought you might have asked why the council haven't tested and sealed, though.

I gathered it's because they are f***ing useless.

So no-one in your manor has a vehicle that needs a new engine, or any job that requires the battery to be disconnected for a long period?

You must have some really funny meters in Brighton.... the ones we have in Sefton if they go down.. runs out of electricity... stops.... you simply get it going again.... new source of power.... and type in the pin number...... it doesn't interfere with the calibration.... and doesn't need to be resealed....

The back up battery is supposed to last at least 6 months without the vehicle power supply.

So are all you lot saying no meters get any attention, for whatever reason, form the meter fitters, between tariff changes?

Cos our local fitters are always resetting them. :?
