David Cameron Accidentally Leaves Nick Clegg in the Peak District Monday, 11 June 2012
The Prime Minister After his Shoelace was Retied. The Prime Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister were in the Peak District for a slap-up lunch with business people who cannot be named. Afterwards, David Cameron was due to travel back to Downing Street in the same car as Nick Clegg. However, the car took off without Nick Clegg, who had stopped to use the loo. It was fifteen hours later that the Prime Minister and his driver realised the mistake. David Cameron remarked of the incident: 'It was a simple mistake that could have happened to anyone. I was listening to Adele in the car, which must have been why I didn't notice that I was without Clegg's misery-guts conversation.'
The mistake was only realised when one of David Cameron's shoelaces came undone. Nick Clegg, who takes his duties as Deputy Prime Minister very seriously, would usually have retied the offending lace before the Prime Minister had even noticed it was loose. David Cameron spoke of his distress when he realised that his shoelace had become completely untied: 'I was stranded beside my desk. I couldn't risk moving in case I tripped over the lace and fell.' It was fifteen minutes before he managed to shout loud enough to attract the attention of a member of staff who could retie it for him.

mini-cab was arranged for Nick Clegg to be ferried back from the Peak District. A press release was issued from Downing Street, stating that the Deputy Prime Minister had got along fine after being left in the Peak District and had actually helped staff by polishing a spoon in the fifteen hours he was there.
