Arrests over five attacks on Leeds cabbies Saturday 16 June 2012 06:00Detectives investigating five robberies on taxi drivers over six days in Leeds have made two arrests.
A 35-year-old Chapeltown man was detained on Sunday and a 46-year-old man from Harehills was arrested on Tuesday.
Both were held on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery and released on police bail pending further inquiries.
One cabbie was attacked and robbed by two masked men in Sycamore Avenue, Harehills, at 3.15am on Friday June 1. They stole his cash and threw his keys into a garden.
The next day at 1.45am another taxi driver was asked to wait for a fare but was grabbed in his vehicle on Conway View, Harehills, by the same man and an accomplice who dragged him out and beat him.
They stole money then released his vehicle’s handbrake. The car rolled away but the driver managed to stop it before it caused serious damage.
At 4.15am on June 3 another taxi driver was assaulted and pulled from his vehicle in Bayswater Terrace, Harehills, by three men who grabbed cash and keys.
A fourth driver was attacked and robbed of cash and a phone in Easterly Road, Harehills, at 1.20am on June 4 by two men and a fifth driver was targeted at 1.15am on June 6 in Gathorne Terrace, Harehills, by three men who assaulted him and stole cash and a phone from his pockets.
