Newcastle taxi driver arrested in £1m cocaine find

A MAN has been arrested after cocaine with a street value of £1m was found in a taxi in Newcastle city centre.

Officers stopped and searched a Skoda Superb taxi in Westmorland Road, Newcastle, and uncovered around four kilos of the drug.

The driver of the taxi was arrested and the cab seized after the discovery, made at around 4.30pm on Thursday.

A man has now been charged in connection with the find, which police believe to be worth more than £1m.

Paul William Higginson, 29, of Severus Road, Fenham, Newcastle, has been charged with possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply.

He was appearing before Newcastle magistrates today.

it doesn't make it clear whether the driver was the only occupant of the car if he was and he'd accepted the package for delivery then more fool him courts don't treat couriers leniently

Methinks the police knew exactly what was in the cab and who put it there, and for what purpose.
