Highest bid for taxi license stood at €96,120

Transport Malta today awarded the last batch of new taxi licenses, after the authority was committed to issue 50 licenses by 2012.

The last batch of new taxi licenses have been awarded

Transport Malta has allocated 10 new taxi licenses after it had already issued another 40.

The allocation of the new licenses is in accordance with the Taxi Services Regulations (S.L. 499.59) published in 2010 which bound Transport Malta to issue 50 new Taxi licenses by 2012.

40 of the Taxi Licenses have already been issued and assigned.

Today's licenses were awarded after sealed bids were opened during a public session in the presence of a Government Notary, TM officials and the general public.

A total number of 64 bids were received. Transport Malta ranked the bids in the order of the highest bidder and awarded the licenses to the highest ten bidders ranked.

As per Regulations, the bids had a starting price of €20,000. The highest bid was of €96,120.00.

The accepted bidders are now expected to apply for the actual registration of the Taxi car for which the new Taxi Licence will be issued, within six months from being notified in writing that their bid has been accepted.

Transport Malta added that a new Taxi Licence shall only be issued to the accepted bidders on condition that the vehicles that they present for registration conform to all the conditions set out in the Taxi Services Regulations for the registration of new Taxi cars.

Just think how much the cash strapped councils in England and Wales could add to their coffers if we had this system of issuing vehicle licences.

Its no surprise the New York Medallion System is spreading throughout Europe, as per we in the uk are alway's last at adopting common sense idea's, Its the only way to stop the infiltration by organised crime gangs, restriction through cost maybe un-reasonable to some but this proves its not illegal, if my trade reps in Edinburgh are reading this thread then surely they should recognise its the way ahead for our trade, all we need is a change in the CGSA oh and the Will

Anyway im off on Holiday, Gran Canaria ADIOS AMIGO'S :D :D

I think the real point here is it's ok for it to have a value as long as the authorities get their cut,

Pricing won't stop organised crime, they will be the ones most likely to have the money to afford it,

There is only one way to get the crims out of the game, and that isn't a popular idea tbh as it penalises the honest and the private ppl, KOOOOOOOOODAK!

Doom times the bid by Ten, the crims don't like laying out huge amounts for profit that takes years to get back, the crims deal in short term gains  To make any significant profit on a short term basis the crims would need hundreds not tens :D

I disagree, I've watched some of the Eastern Europeans come up with six figure plus outlays to set up, I know they are at it, they know I know they are at it, personally it's not worth the risk for me bubbling it all up, if they get caught they get caught and thats what the police force is there to sort out, besides I also know they are fronts for a larger nasty mafia so rocking that boat isn't an option, having seen how slack the legal system is when helping out before with things like stabbings I know for my own and my families sake to look the other way,

Besides before I get the old (oh yeah turn the other cheek thing) wait until it's you and see how they leave your name and address laying around for all to see, and see how you are yesterdays man the day after, and you'll understand why I have no faith in it anymore, I'll deal with it if and when the time comes it affects me, still got my gillie suit

But do they know that you know that they know that you know, now that is the important question you know.

I'd better clarify it, they know I'm clever enough to know whats what, I don't actually know what they are up to I just know some are subbing their incomes elsewhere, it could be a simple as them babysitting a position that might be useful in future to someone, it could be something more sinister, I don't ask and I don't really want to know, and they don't do anything to really annoy me, they're actually my children tbh, when they have a problem or need help I'm the first person they come to for advice, there are many ways to look at things, even if they are up to naughties, they may not have a choice in the matter, things work very differently where they are from to here and it's very easy to sit in judgement without seeing the whole picture, I could have the whole thing wrong tbh, but I don't think I have, but like I said, I'm not a cop and I don't get paid to uphold the law, a law system which afaikt doesn't give a toss anyway I actually found an article a while ago saying this country is the most likely to welcome high level crime (as long as the man gets a cut  ) kinda de-motivated me tbh and totally understandable as I've seen people go from friendly to plain self serving and nasty over the last 30 years, so I'll just look after my own and good friends and the rest can hunt for themselves, I've done my share of helping out in various ways over the years and I don't think it was worth it tbh.
