I seem to do between 120 and 140 per week, based on 6 days (no nights).

Night drivers can do more as there is less traffic.

We have a couple of drivers that do up to 240 a week, but they really do put the hours in and don't have any other driver in their car.

So I'd say a driver that sticks it out all day at our firm should hit 20-25 jobs per day

Private hire firm in a smallish town with no train station, therefore we get quite a few out-of-town runs.

how much do you have to pay out before you make a penny for yourself

£400+ round this way.

Lets see:

Running Costs before profit:

Vehicle Insurance £1100.00
Vehicle repayments £3300.00
Vehicle Maintenance £1500.00
Taxi Licence £182.00
Drivers Licence £78.00
Road Tax £205.00
CRBs etc £120.00
Car care £250.00
Fuel £7000.00
Vehicle Depreciation £4000.00
Various other £1200.00

Annual Costs £18935.00

Divided by 52.25 = £362.00 per week
Based on 40,000 Miles a year..

Not a precise Example but not far off the mark.
Even if you Do not have HP on a car you still
paid for it one way or another so Annual vehicle Costs
are about the same.

That is the one that most people fail to put into their running costs.

£4000.00 - That'll be for a Skoda then.

I have been thinking of trading up to an Automatic E7, at the end of next year. Purchased for £27,000.00 The Trade-in value after about 33 months and 75,000 miles was said to be £10,000.00. That's closer to £6,000.00 per year.

Round here,

Rent £270 per week X 52 = £14,000
Fuel £130 per week X 52 = £ 6,760
Total = £20,760

Basically round here you've got to take £20,760 before you earn anything for yourself.

I've not added on the cleaning to that so you can say £10 twice a week = £20 X 52 = £1,200

The new total you get is £21,960.

It's pretty grim really.

Looking at Bloodnock's figures and comparing them with my own figures, he's not far out on what he says. It is possible to save money by leasing a car rather than getting one on HP, then you don't have the depreciation to worry about, but the lease fees can be slightly higher than HP; but then you can back the car at the end of the lease and get another new one. It depends on your public image, whether you want to be out and about in an old dog or a car that's only a couple of years old.

I find with a lease car it's virtually no time off the road for repairs, just the routine servicing you need with a new car.

Worrying about a few quid on the cost of a CRB makes little difference to the annual figures; what matters is what you earn per mile, and from that you can work out what you earn per hour. You'd be surprised how little it can be!

Over 55? Are you getting working tax credit? If not, look into it!

not a lot, but it appears to be if you are over 55 you can get working tax credit, a lot of drivers round here get it. It's about £88 a week if you're working over 26 hours a week. better than being on the dole as you get the same sort of benefits but can carry on working. :)
