I didn't have time to mess about with quotes because it was a Thursday and I needed to get it sorted the next day. It was an 06 reg megane 1.5 diesel estate.

Just to enlarge on the windscreen thing a bit. Single vehicle policies can and mainly do differ from fleet policies. If you read your policy (YAWN!) for a single vehicle, you will normally see in the contents a separate section for glass damage. So, what this means is that it is a bit like a policy within a policy. Usually a glass claim does not affect NCB and the excess is typically £60 to £75 although there are some higher ones out there. Also watch for some policies that have an upper claim limit and those that will not cough up the full replacement cost if you don't use their nominated repairer.

So, fleets. These can be more varied in their approach. For example, Aviva have a separate glass section and low excess. LV is the most confusing on fleets cos depending on the route the broker took to access LV, it may or may not have a separate glass section. If it does, there is the standard excess, £75 if I recall. Some LV fleet policies though, mainly placed through the London/Lloyd's market, don't have a separate windscreen section so glass claims are dealt with under the same section as say a collision, so are subject to the same excess. This also applies to most Lloyd's/London market arranged policies on fleets. So Amlin/Summit, Chaucer, KGM etc all likely to have the same glass excess as if you were claimming for collision damage.

Here endeth the lesson.
