its galling that a 8 seater PH here has to be 4 years max (1st plate) costing £10K plus, then after 6 years old is on 4 month plates but 12 and 16 seaters being run by a local firm on O-licences are S reg smiley transits not worth £2K complete with scabby paint and smokey engines....

You could always report the smokey engines. VOSA have a telephone number specifcally for this.

my Banana transits always smoked but passed all tests....

Im with you on that john good post.LTI are struggling and low and behold london starts getting age limits,i think itll push for ten years soon.I really dont buy the emissions arguments as why are all councils, bus operators not having age limits forced on them ? If the vehicle passes the councils test/requirements then whats wrong with it ?

you could also consider the LEZ...

My P reg Pug ET70 Convoy ex-minibus converted to camper = illegal ref-LEZ, same with over 9 pass seats=legal, same engine in a CAR=legal

Convoy emissions illegal at 0.35 my mondeo legal at 2.85

There are many arguments about the cost of replacing cars but its easy to go to an aution and buy a 4/5 year old ex fleet saloon for £3500/£4000.

Many LAs don't allow saloon cars.

Don't allow them as what?

On balance I think an age limit is better than no age limit, but there are defo two sides.

I think you will find that age limits on vehicles will be illegal once the LC have finished tinkering.

Defo gone on PH, possibly on hackneys.

But there are loads of LAs that are voicing strong opinions that they should be kept.

I wonder if that will make a difference?

With the country getting whipped up into an ever Greener frenzy by the tree Huggers and Shaggers society, nothing older than new born Clover leaf will be allowed out on the road for fear of it bringing on an Asthma attack in a Natterjack toad.

Yet It will not amount to a Grain of Sand in Comparison to the whole beach worth of C02 that China and India will be spewing forth, We shall, as always be over regulated to the point of burdensome.

So..please lets get rid of age limits and Judge a vehicle on it's reliability, safety and overall performance to do the job...Just like we would it's driver. :?
