Woman stabbed to death in taxi in Northfield

A woman has been stabbed to death in a taxi in the Northfield area of Birmingham.

Police were called to the junction of Dimsdale Road and Hoggs Lane at about 08:00 BST.

The victim, who has not been named, is said to have been stabbed inside the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives, who said the taxi driver alerted the emergency services, believe a man fled from the scene.

Det Ch Insp Wayne Jones, from West Midlands Police said: "Officers... are making significant inquiries in the local area, as we conduct searches for a man who we believe ran from the scene.

"We appeal for witnesses to the incident to come forward, as well as anyone who may have been in the area and seen a man running from the vicinity of Dimsdale Road and Hoggs Lane at around 8am today."

Dimsdale Road, Hoggs Lane and Norrington Road have been closed while emergency services work at the scene and detectives begin forensic examinations.

A tragedy for the dead passenger and her family and a bad day for the driver he will lose his vehicle now as it will be held by the police indefinitely, if he is an owner driver well he could be out of a job with little chance of compensation
