Taxi driver was kicked and punched to floor by thug in racist attack


A DRUNKEN thug punched a taxi driver in a racist attack after the cabbie told him and his friends to get out of the car.

Ashley Pegg and another man assaulted Mohammed Rashid outside his cab in Derby, leaving him with two black eyes, a bruised face and grazes to his shoulders.

Pegg, who admitted affray and racially aggravated assault causing actual bodily harm, has now been given a two-year community order.

His accomplice, Lee Preston, 22, was jailed for 18 months in January for the offence. Three other men were acquitted of the attack.

Sentencing Pegg, 23, of Cowsley Road, Chaddesden, at Derby Crown Court, Recorder Simon Ward said: "The assault you committed was extremely serious. Mr Rashid was simply doing his job as a taxi driver and he picked up people that had no respect for him at all."

The court heard that the cabbie received a call at 9pm on April 16, last year, to collect five men from Chaddesden. They were drinking cans of lager.

As the taxi reached the Pentagon Island, the group became rowdy and were shouting slogans, such as "we are EDL", referring to the English Defence League.

Jonathan Dee, prosecuting, said: "By the time the taxi got to Ashbourne Road, Preston's head and body were out of the taxi window. Mr Rashid told him to get in. He was being racially abusive and was throwing cans at cars."

Preston pulled himself in from the window and the cabbie locked all the windows and doors, which angered the passengers.

"Mr Rashid eventually lost patience and, on Uttoxeter New Road, told them to get out," said Mr Dee.

They did so while making racial threats. When the cabbie thought they had gone away he got out of his car to close the doors properly, it was then that they attacked him, shouting racial abuse.

Mr Dee said: "He was punched and kicked to the ground and when on the ground was kicked to the face and ribs."

Another taxi driver came over to help him and he was also punched and hit.

Preston was arrested nearby and Pegg and the other men were found at Preston's home in Walbrook Road, Derby.

Charlotte Hole, for Pegg, said: "It was simply drunken stupidity that got considerably out of hand."

Recorder Ward told Pegg the reason he had not jailed him was because he would "hardly be in prison at all" because of the time he had been on tagged curfew.

"And it wouldn't be justice," said Recorder Ward.

Pegg will be supervised by the probation service for 18 months, must attend a thinking skills programme and do 100 hours of unpaid work.

There used to be a thing years ago when one kid pinched or punched another kid the parent would pinch or punch (within reason) the other kid so that kid knew what it felt like before he inflicted his game on anyone else, it used to work as well, so instead of 100 hrs comm service why not put him against a wall and throw half empty tins of beer at him and finish off with a Glasgee kiss so he doesn't miss out on the black eyes experience,

I know, it's called an eye for an eye, and when it was justice there was much less of this [edited by admin] poor behaviour about as a result, well done lefties you've taken control away from the sensible and given it to a viral breed of asshole who are now breeding uncontrollably, Rule Chavtannia.

I think these lads are far too far down the road for that they are scum pure and simple and I doubt a couple of punches aimed at them as kids would have prevented that !
