I'm new here so firstly, Hi all! :)

I’ve been working on a free website http://www.TaxiPricer.com in my spare time – it does what it sort of says on the tin; it provides quotes from local Taxi and Private Hire companies along with their contact details

To advertise your Taxi/Private Hire company on the site, just fill out a simple signup form to get a free account where you can login, tells us what cars you have (4/5/6/7/8 seater etc), how much you charge per mile and the postcodes you service. The website then includes your quotes and contact info when a customer is looking for a price on a journey.

It’s also optimised for use on the iPhone , where your customer can get a price with one click, full quote details with the second click and be calling you on the third click. I’ve yet to get my hands on an Android or Windows phone to test it, but the plan is for it work on all 3.

The website is completely FREE to use for both customer and Taxi/Private Hire company. Additionally, its ad-free as well, so no annoying google ads or pop-ups

Please give it a try, and if you’d like to advertise your services on it just hit the register link on the site footer and I’ll be in touch.

All feedback is welcome, good or otherwise. Any questions just shout

Steve @TaxiPricer

P.S. It’s only got 2 ‘demo’ firms on there at the moment (Acme Taxis and Taxis R Us) just to show how it works
P.P.S I hope I'm not breaking any rules by posting external links?

As long as this is the only post then everything is fine.

What usually happens is that we get the same post posted about a dozen times all over the site.

And then someone deletes them and the user.

But once is fine. Any further posts must be part of a conversation, which you of course can start.

Alex

Two going from, but no going to. :?

And how do you check the firm you are passing work to are licensed? :?

And how does your service differ from the zillion others? :?

And why do you think we all want cheap work? :?

Oh how embarrassing  , the perils of copy and paste, thanks for spotting this! :D

When a firm signs up, the approval process is manual during which a quick check is made to make sure they're legit. However, I am actually very keen to get a stear from you guys how I can improve this as you'll know more about it than me. Presumably, each Taxi/Private Hire company has to have a formal license number or some sort (?) that is available publicly and its verifyable? i.e. its not comercially sensitive. I was thinking about maybe putting that on the signup form or something. As I say, I'm more than happy to take your stear on it, after all, you're the pro's!

Ermm.. without a url or 2 of the others I can't really say :) Before I developed this, I did a fair amount of googling for other services and nothing much really came up. A few apps for London but thats about it. I wanted to create something that's real target market is portable i.e. smart phones. And that's really where I'm trying to head with it.

I don't think I said you did :) You dont have to solicite cheap work. Once you sign up, you're in control of the rates you want to set so you can adjust them higher or lower (to attract or not) on an as-and-when basis. The customer will always pick the firm they want to (be it the cheapest, the name they recognise, the one that will be there sooner on average etc.)

Thanks for your input Sussex, I'm happy to answer any other questions :D

I have set my rates and I have set the postcodes that I service but when I put a journey in, I do not show up in the results. I dont seem to be able to set the vehicle sizes that I have.
Because of the problems with many limousines, I would not include them in your site if I were you.

Ah, I see. You have to set your rates and then log out. Log back in again and then you can set the size of your vehicles.
By the way the remember me function does not seem to work.

Where do customers get the contact details for my company? Ok, I have found this now but the little arrow that you need to click on is not easy to see.

Hmm... this need to logout isn't intentional, I've just fixed that

Yeah I'm aware of that one, its a nice to have that I've not got round to, I'll sort that this evening after work

They can actually click anywhere in the box and it'll expand. I guess its not as clear as I'd thought though if it wasn't immediately obvious to you. I'll maybe put some "see more detals" text or something to make it a bit more intuitive - thanks for this

I see you've setup your service area so I've removed the demo firms from those areas so they dont interfere. If you've got access to an iPhone I would encourage you to check out what your quotes look like on there as well

Hi bloodnock
Thanks for your feedback, would you mind me asking what areas you were using and I'll check things out this side?
What I would say is that I know if the pickup location is a bit generic (for example Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom) then it'll struggle to pinpoint a pickup an exact location as its such a wide area - so it'll prompt you to be more specific.
In this scenario, Google will be helpful and still auto-suggest Cambridgeshire for you because its a valid county and allow you to select it. I'll have a look and see if there's a way that I can filter such suggestions out, however I'm hoping that the customer would be more specific when specifying a pickup location

I'm happy to checkout which routes didnt work for you, feel free to PM them over if you dont wish to share them with the rest of the forum :)

One of them I checked was Between Edinburgh airport and Newcastle airport ...and Zilch.

And unless it Can be National, regional, Town, Street and Post Code specific then it's not going to be of much use to Joe Punter.

You're right about Edinburgh airport, I'll check this out tonight after work and feedback.

Certainly, the intention is that it should be National right down street level, however as I'm sure you'll agree - picking up Joe Punter on one side of a county will equate to a different fare than if you'd have picked him up from the opposite end. Which is the sort of thing that you currently tease out from your customer when they pickup the phone I imagine?

Thanks for pointing the airport thing out. I suspect I know why it is, its how I get over it that counts - there will be a way :)

I would have thought the Fare for Picking up Joe punter would be more dependent on the Fare prices stated by those Who are registered on your site and who are reasonably suitably placed on Joe Punters route so as not to add needless fare mileage to his journey. And then be further based on Who's Geographically based closer to Joe Punter in case he's in a Hurry to be somewhere.

I think you have some Unseen Variables to factor in before you hit the Jackpot.
